Best Character Writer of the Week: Lord Durham

We have alot of talented writers on this forum. Be it from CK to HOI2 we have numerous tales, numerous plot twists, and a vast assortment of writing styles. Yet in all this what I think makes a good story is the characters in it.

Are they the strong amazing heroes who we all look up to? Or the everyman who through it all seems to win? Or are they wicked vile people who you hate, yet cannot help but admire?

With this in mind I think we should say who is the best character,why that is, and who wrote them.

Here is some elaboration on the rules for passing this on:

a) primary responsibility for keeping these awards moving rests with the awarder. If you haven't heard from your nominee by the following sunday, then its your responsibility (& pleasure) to pick again;
b) if the award goes missing for two weeks, one of the mods will post in the thread. This might indicate that it will be passed on asap. Lets face it we all take breaks from the forum and its unfair to deny someone a chance to pick their nominee just because they are exceptionally busy or taking a holiday;
c) on the other hand, this might indicate that the award is stuck. At that stage making a nomination for a new nominee is first come, first served. The proposals around voting are too difficult to manage in reality and the delight of all these awards is they are idiosyncratic, its what an individual llkes, not, as with the ACAs, what we as an AAR community like.




So to start of I would like to say that Heinz Wilhelm Guderian is a wonderful character in The Rise and Fall of Generaloberst Hienz Wilhelm Guderian - a DD German AAR. Writen by dag231, his entire AAR shows what the character thinks, what he feels, and most importantly why he does what he does.

So congrats.

I am humbled...

Hopefully everyone who reads my writing will enjoy the story as it develops, including the surprise mid-ending...

I think that the people who write AARs (and there are some amazing writers here) are a tremendous asset to the community, and the reason why I write them it to give something back (and work on my writing muscles)... I have learned a lot, in terms of strategy, from AARs, and if a kernel or two can be gleamed from my Guderian AAR (that amphibious assault across the Black Sea, for example) that will help make another person's game all that better, than I am all the more happy to it.
