Well, thanks. This was a bit of a surprise. I didn't expect that AAR to get so much attention so quickly. :P
Lots of congrats, Rauchen! A very good AAR.

Normally I stick to the EU3 AARs, but I poked through the CK, HoI, and Victoria AARs in my search for the next candidate. It was the CK2 section that drew my attention, as there is some good writing going on there right now. My dilemma was that many of these AARs were using a Game of Thrones mod, and so many of the characters in these were created by George Martin. With respect to fanfic authors, it didn't seem quite right to award a character writing award to anyone using characters that weren't their own. Because of this position, I almost skipped over Zealuu's A Song of Mostly Ice, expecting it to just be a rehashing of the Starks in Winterfell, but never just judge a book by its cover...or an AAR by its title. :P
This AAR is centered around the av Åsane dynasty of Bergenhus and the Yngling royal family of Norway, and contains many compelling characters with their own individual ambitions and motives. It's not as picture-heavy as your standard AAR, but its a well-rounded and excellent story and very much worthy of this award. So, the award passes to Zealuu, for the characters Queen Gyda Yngling and Lendmann Harald av Åsane.
Congratulations, Zealuu.![]()

This selection is going to be a little influenced by the sad fact that I've not had as much time to shop around for character-centric AARs as I would have liked, because, well, summer and holidays and so on.
But anyway. Along with General_BT's excellent Byzantine intrigue from CK1, it was Saithis' North Star series (continued in CK2) that got me into AARs in the first place. So in a startling display of originality I'd like to pass the award on to Saithis for the excellent Valour of the North Star - Chronicles of the Hvide Clan, in particular for the characters Harald and Erik. Despite being Danes (their time will come), they're a set of very well-rounded and believable characters, expertly flanked by a wider cast that displays plenty of ambiguity and credible motivations. And of course the AAR is otherwise excellent, too.
... Hope I did this right.
My CK2 AARs:
Bergenhus: A Song of Mostly Ice (Narrative, not AGoT-based - Character writer of the week 23/7-12)
Leon: A Treatise on the Medieval History of Iberia (Historybook)
Congrats Saithis ... well deserved (& of course this means we are now an update ... hint hint)
