Unless of course I've mixed things up which is a distinct possiblity. It also occurs to me that France and the USSR could become very friendly as they are both supply weapons to the Communists in Spain and have similar strategical interests in containing Germany and a lack of relations with Britain. What are the thoughts on this?
First, it's not clear to me why people think the the French are "semi-Communist". Second, so long as the Poles are French allies, Franco-Soviet ties will be trickly. Not insurmountable, of course; there was a Franco-Soviet pact in 1935. But not easy.

As for El Pip's point, good luck getting to that oil when the Franco-Soviet Internationale overruns Iraq.
I am therefore officially rooting for a Franco-German strike on Russia, prompting the Soviets to strike back with their hitherto secret nukes. This will serve as a salutary lesson to all involved and leave everyone suitably chastened.-El Pip

Very nice update you had on the previous page, El Pip. Things seem to be looking up for the British.

If Britain really does form an alliance with Germany, that will certainly place France in a tight spot.

Maine also casts her vote for Landon-Vandenberg. As Maine goes, the nation goes.

There is no way to peace along the way of safety. For peace must be dared, it is itself the great venture and can never be safe. Peace is the opposite of security. To demand guarantees is to want to protect oneself. Peace means giving oneself completely to God's commandment, wanting no security, but in faith and obedience laying the destiny of the nations in the hand of almighty God, not trying to direct it for selfish purposes. Battles are won, not with weapons, but with God. They are won when the way leads to the cross.

    Lord Strange - Yey indeed.

Jalex - You're in luck it's in the next couple of updates.

Hawkeye1489 - Hopefully when the ghost page thing gets sorted they'll also fix the post linking bug.

    Vote duly in any case.

Jalex - A very interesting setup to be sure, a three way struggle in central Europe would make things a great deal more interesting.

And as you note, Hitler is looking fairly unstable at the moment. Pretty much every foreign policy gambit has gone wrong and he damn near started a war with France over the Rhineland for no benefit. People are (quietly) asking questions about if he is the correct choice for leader at the moment, though whether they can remove him against his will is a different question...

Duritz - Nahh, before going bankrupt we'd privatise Australia first.

    Arilou - Noted.

Faeelin - Are you always this optimistic and supportive or is something you save just for me?

Nathan Madien - Some ups and some downs I feel.

On the Anglo-German alliance, do countries go into alliances on the re-bound? After splitting up with France could Britain start going out with the bad fräulein from next door? Sure she's a naughty little minx and her domestic habits leave a great deal to be desired, but she does know some kinky tricks....

GeneralHannibal - Ballot box duly stuffed.

    Duritz - Box ticked.

    TheExecuter - Gottcha.

Hawkeye1489 - Luckily there are no electronic voting machine in this election so I can assure you of no lost votes.

    Atlantic Friend - Wise words.

RAFspeak - Many new and exciting technologies to discuss. And some utterly duff ones as well sadly. Still that's balance for you.

    Latest Opinion Poll

    Hull-Barkley (Democrats) - 44% (N/C)
    Landon-Vandenberg (Republican) - 46% (+1%)
    Garner-White (State's Rights) - 10% (-1%)

After yet another round of polling the Republicans are holding on, indeed marginally extending, their lead, mainly at the expense of the State's Rights Party which is now hovering close to the psychologically important 10% barrier. Worse for Garner it appears he is in danger of losing his home state with Texas appearing to tend Republican. For Landon however his broad brush approach appears to be winning and his anti-prohibition message is really chiming with a public keen for a change.

For the Democrats the question has to be where best to focus their efforts, a continued surge in the battleground states of New York and the Mid-West, trying to secure the once Solid South or attempting to hover up those states that are still un-decided. Getting that choice right, and then succeeding in it, will be key to Hull's chance of getting into the White House.

@El Pip - Mayhaps and while we don't have electronic voting machines we are still in the middle of the the Boss Political Machine in Chicago under Mayor Kelly....which I guess Chicago Politics never dies considering the ruin of Governor Blagojevich of Illinois and his possible connections to the next 44th President...

And what is this? Cordell Hull attempting to fight back in Tennessee? Never! Another Vote for Landon-Vandenberg '36 in the Volunteer State!

Hmmm. The Brits don't really care who is President. Soon they will return to the Imperial Fold. With taxes backdated to 1776 of course.

    Vote Hull/Barkely! Strength in Victory!

This time in the glorious state of California, where the State's Rights Party and GOP will split the "establishment" vote, allowing Hull to sail to victory with 40% of the vote (the same amount Upton Sinclair, once a Socialist and then a Democrat got in 1934)...
