Hmm, if things are heading the way they seem to be, the world will most likely soon witness the first brigade-sized armor engagement in history, with cheap, nasty British and German light tanks meeting their French, US and Soviet counterparts. The outcome of this engagement will undoubtedly give all foreign observers valuable ideas and lessons about the nature of armored warfare - and not all of those ideas and lessons will be good and sound...

Great update once again, all in all.

All the Capitalists pig dogs looking for deep, dark holes to hide their loot in I'm sure... or perhaps just economic conservatives who figure burying only their heads just isn't being commited enough to deflationary methods of staving off a recession! ;)

I will have you know we plan on staving off a recession by creating a boom in hole digging. Everybody can use a hole.

Duritz - Actually it's foreign socialists committed to putting their own citizens into debt in order to pay my wages. Somewhat amusingly the last few months I've been slightly involved with the Brisbane Airport Link tunnel and there is talk of a big desalination plant in South Australia coming up soon. You can rest assured your children will still be paying of the debts being racked up to pay my wages! ;)

Karelian - Thanks for the compliment, I can promise you tank on tank action. Though as you say with so many light tanks involved it may not be a particularly accurate experience!

Nathan Madien - President Obama is indeed working hard to spend your money on keeping me employed by working on projects with very dirty names; I've worked on DURT (Detroit Upper Rouge Tunnel) and SLUT (Seattle Link University Tunnel) this year alone.

Duritz - I support other countries going into debt to provide make work programmes for me. Does that count?

From the sound of it, the nationalists will not even accomplish their limited goals due to their misuse of tanks. With the south leaving their panzers at home, only to be captured when the army of Africa dies in the mountains with no armor to hide behind from small arms guerilla fire. While the north probably sends their tanks into an urban zone where traps and improvised explosives deal the monarchist militias a death blow. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It'll be interesting to see what the republican side has in store for the year. Will it be more ambitious? Because as it as, they're in a good position to cut off the north and south while the nationalists try their offensives and leave their middle exposed.

Good to have you back, Pippy. Glad to hear your work is plentiful. I am eager to see how the Republicans plan to play this round.

I'm not sure the reduction of the Salamanca will be particular chanllenging for the Monarchists but Siguenza may be a totally different kettle of fish.

As to the British plan for eliminating the Republican fleet, haven't the Rightist forces (UK, Germany) considered submarines as a "deniable" assistance to the Royal Fleet. A sortie by the Royalists which tempted the Republicans into a counter sortie to be ambushed by several subs would seem to achieve most of the stated goals of the first pahse of their operations.

An old dreadnought is not likely to survive more and one or two torpedoes. Alternatively a "stringbag" attack from bases in the Balearics is another possibility (with "volunteer" pilots of course)

Given all the garbage flying around in this year's midterm election, making the unemployed dig holes to bury all this garbage doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Indeed! You'll need a very big whole to bury the 1st Amendment in if the Tea Party candidates get in...

Pippy - yes, foreign investment still counts Comrade!

Better hope you don't end up in Adelaide, they call it the City of Churches because it sounds better than City of Bugger all to Do!

By the way, what does "City of Bugger all to Do" mean?

[Australian translator]Bugger all = nothing[/Australian translator]

On reflection, Adelaide really is just a big hole so maybe Pippy will like it.

A bit voyeuristic but I love US elections because polls close on the East Coast around 9am Sydney time and I can spend all day Wednesday at work watching them instead of doing work... although (and I say this aware of the irony) the map on the Washington Post website was a little too red for my taste yesterday...

Come on Pippy, write about Republicans I like!

So calling you a DURTy SLUT is not an insult then :)

Pippy should be just about ready for another update, particularly with all that pent up gloating for the Ashes series about to begin (and please don't mention the rugby). Time to fill up the rest of the page.

So, do the planes in Spain fall mainly when it rains?

Spain needs to stop putting their planes together with glue. It isn't practical, you know.
