Gordon Brown isn't clever enough to be really all that masterful with spin, when in fact Tony Blair and his aide Alistair Campbell better deserve that accolade in bucketloads.

Just trying to stay current... I originally had Blair and changed it. ;)

Anywho, no misdirecting from the point... I demand a tank update prior to further political shenanigans!

Davout, Karelian, all together now;

"Mine eyes have seen the glory of the Royal Tank Corp;
It's trampling out the history where the rule of horse is stored.
and hath loosed the fateful lightning of their terrible swift sword;
Their rule is coming anon!"

Duritz - Tanks are looking a little distant, but will be done by Christmas. Though if you look at this history of those words I wouldn't get your hopes up...

And don't complain about tanks being last either, the readers have spoken and indicated their preference, that is the nature of democracy

Sir Humphrey - Interesting idea, not one I'd considered. Certainly at the moment Ireland is suffering badly while Northern Ireland is booming compared to OTL (no Irish linen due to tariffs means the N. Irish farmers are making a fortune). Certainly Londonderry would ensure that Ulsters views are remembered when (if?) the Anglo-Irish trade war ends, OTL they got badly stiffed on the deal when Viscount Craigavon rolled over and wouldn't risk even mentioning it.

Nathan Madien - You liked the politics, excellent. :)

Now you mention it the Halifax picture is pretty bad, I must confess to a degree of laziness there; it's the same one I used in an update years ago. (It has actually been years. That is terrifying! :eek: )

scubadoobie2 - Your back! Huzzah! I had wondered if I'd lost you and a few others with the recent updates.

Curses, you rumbled my cunning scheme. Yes while people were voting I was playing around with BC designs for the naval update, mapping out the cabinet scheming and pondering how good or bad to make the next generation of tanks.

Davout - I think I've been to your church before;

Is it this one?

DonnieBaseball - I was pondering Jedi Chamberlain for Austen and Darth Chamberlain for Neville. It almost works actually;

"Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to sink the Bismark is insignificant next to the power of appeasement."

merrick - As you say the government will not have an easy time of things, what was a very comfortable majority has been reduced as the Nat Liberals depart while there are several big personality clashes just waiting to happen. And that's before we even get to what the Opposition might do.

India, well Austen was able to differentiate Britain from the British Empire in a way Churchill couldn't. What mattered for Britain was being able to harness the manpower, resources and markets of India, running domestic Indian politics didn't materially help Britain and was actually counter-productive (driving Indians towards full blown independence). As he's running the show expect defence, external trade and foreign policy to stay under London's thumb while everything else is up for grabs.

Pakistan has reared up, but fortunately with Congress fragmented every splinter group has their own regional demands so it's less controversial. Equally as it will be an Indian federation, the British solution to any colonial problem, and a lot powers will be pushed to 'state' level (to weaken national government so it can easily be cowed by the Viceroy/London) it should work out. Certainly I struggle to see it being worse than partition, as India will stay one country any internal migration can be a great deal slower and more organised which has to mean it's less violent.

Over on ah.com someone once said about Brown that if he were to discover a cure for Aids, Cancer and the common cold the headlines would be "Brown hurts Pharmaceutical Industry!"

Obviously the congregation of that church are not true grognards, otherwise I would have expected witty remarks about Bishops and Sextant SPG's.

Given the BC/DB people seem to have wandered off, I think it is in order that you reward the True Believers of the armoured persuasion by promoting the tanks update instead, eh Pip?!?

Since they both went to Rugby School, shouldn't the Chamberlains be designated major and minor?

And finally, hopefully not giving too much away, but Ch major is fast (insofar as anything moves fast in this AAR) approaching his use by date. Will there be a cerebral vascular accident in this timeline or will Ch major have better control over his blood pressure.

Mister Davout...

1] The BC people may have 'wandered off', but the FAA people are still blearily awake by their computer screens. :cool:

2] 'Bishop' I can let you have, but 'Sextant' is a position-finding instrument commonly in use in the navy. :) I assume you were thinking of the 'Sexton', which was a sensible use of a crummy tank hull to move an excellent field-piece around the battlefield. But since we aren't going to be talking about tanks or AFVs for a while yet... :rofl:

Still awake and waiting for FAA updateryZzzz... :eek:

I suppose when the time comes, the immortal phrase will ring once again, "Ulster will fight and Ulster will be right".

trekaddict - Nah, the headline would be "Brown moves lips, lies suspected." It would then emerge he hadn't actually invented a cure for anything but had in fact made the existing treatments worse and more expensive. While claiming thousands in fake expenses to give to his brother in cash. Then starting a new illegal war using money he'd stolen off injured veterans of the last illegal war.

Basically I could go on for years (about 12 in fact) on all the things he's personally done to make everything worse for everyone.

Davout - I have a system, it may not be a fair or even a good system but it is mine. Tanks will have to wait I'm afraid.

Ch Major/Minor, could work as designation, though it might ruin the style somewhat if I use it in updates. And I must confess I thought it was a heart attack that took Ch Major, but damned if I can remember why I thought that so it could indeed have been a stroke. Either way I figure there's a degree of flexibility there should it prove necessary/convenient.

I must confess I've all but given up planning more than a few updates ahead in any detail, so I've probably got till next year before I need to give it any real thought. ;)

RAFspeak - No baiting the poor tankies, they've got a rough enough deal as it is (even though it is self inflicted by their lack of votes).

Sir Humphrey - I think the Empire is due a few more trouble spots, the virtuous circle can only take you so far. Something has to go wrong somewhere and Ireland is looking a likely option, what that means for Ulster... who knows?

I know, I just like stirring the navy porn people. Also, when you are at the bottom of the pile, there is nothing to lose.

To be honest, any update is a good update and the AAR has positively been whizzing by in the last month. "Crusaders for Christmas" will be the watch words.

Oh - and I hoped I would be able to say "Happy Tanksgiving".

Crusaders... bit low tech don't you think!?!

I'm hoping for Churchills... or given the alternative nature of this AAR perhaps that should be "Chamberlains for Christmas"! :D

It wouldn't be so bad if we had been able to keep Iraq, but otherwise it hardly seems worth the bother...

Anyway, give me ships or give me death!

My Lord, I bring terrible news...

Praetonia was inspecting the 2 pounder on my new tank and it accidently went off while they were standing in front of it! :eek: :(

So... can we have the tanks update now? :D

Chamberlain tanks has the ability to appease other tanks. It doesn't fire off ammo...it fires off hope for "peace in our time".

It "befriends" people.

I'm not certain how many people would get that.

I always thought that naming tanks after politicians, let alone a sitting Prime Minister, was rather self-aggrandising and un-British and simply should not be done. It is something that, dare I say it, Americans would do.

2pdr? Pah, would barely scratch my splinter deck...

Now consider some sort of land battleship, 800ft long with 18" guns and armour as thick as a house... to be under the control of the navy of course.

We Americans name our tanks after Generals. Patton...Sherman...that kind of thing.

Suppose you might say Cyprus, Palestine (always a hot spot, inlc. Jordan) or somewhere else in Arabia.

True. That's a pretty good system really - Marlborough, Wellington, etc. would make good names for tanks. I just don't like the USN's tendancy to name almost every ship after a person or president: USS Jimmy Carter doesn't exactly inspire terror and awe, and even a more bellicose figure like USS Ronald Reagan doesn't have quite the same grandeur as HMS Royal Sovereign or suchlike.
