One more for naval porn.

If it's a dead heat between politics and naval stuff, I'm sure El Pip shall be honour-bound to give us either a post on each this week or else one magnum naval-politico opus.

Davout - In rebuttal I'll refer you to the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks. As Jack Gibson once said, "Waiting for the Sharks to win a Premiership is akin to leaving the porch light on for Harold Holt!"

In reply to your Costello comment... I completely agree. Large surpluses were built up by a robust economy and the Coalition only ever spending money on pork barrelling. The robust economy was the result of the financial reforms of the Hawke/Keating era. Reforms that John Howard opposed and decried during his time as Opposition leader, and that he and Costello kept in place through 11 years of government.

But I digress... back to vote rigging... erm, I mean counting...

I believe that under the current form of voting a tie leads to the disqualification of the two options and the success of the next highest!

Tank porn, hooray! :D

Don't let past voting dissuade you, this thread operates on the one man, many votes system. Some may mock such a system but it's at least as sensible as "Mixed member proportional representation with overhang balance seats". More importantly the system is understood by the electorate, unlike most forms of PR.

So it's like the EU.

The British Army does some of its best stuff facing inevitable defeat.

Another day, another vote for the thin metal line.

In an attempt to rally all good men to the flag, I will now perform a little ditty I call "Vote Armour and Vote Often":

Men of Army, stop your dreaming
We don't want planes, ships or scheming
Give us trucks and tanks agleaming
Tommys will not yield

Brooke and Alex, Auk and Jumbo
All want treads and AP ammo
Can't you hear the pleading Hobo
Armour takes the field

Through the hills surrounding
Carboretors mounting
Armour slope to give us hope
Of 88's rebounding

Men of Sandhurst on to glory
We want to hear of their story
Boats and Pollies really bore me
El Pip's choice revealed

DonnieBaseball - You are aware a combined naval-political-FAA update would easily top 5,000 words. I've submitted shorter dissertation than that!

Fact of the day - current word count is 120,000 up to the end of the last chapter. Eek indeed.

C&D - Or till Thursday morning, whichever comes sooner.

Nathan Madien - Trying to game the system hey? Well done, that's getting into the spirit of things! :)

Duritz - Keep fighting the good fight sir, there can still be glory in defeat if you go down fighting.

Davout - That sir is an outstanding ditty and should be the rallying cry tanks needs to win. I'll be rooting for armour certainly.

Jalex - Ballot box duly stuffed.

MadVlad - It brings a tear to you're eye doesn't it?

Carlstadt Boy - The lure of boat/aircraft porn is strong isn't it?

Tanks and Trucks - X Votes
Schisms and Scheming - XVII Votes
Battle-cruisers and Dive Bombers - XVI Votes

Tanks into double figures, a fine overnight performance. That last minute vote from Carlstadt Boy keeps the gap at the top down to one vote, this one looks like it is going down to the wire!

Well, I feel bad that I am so unoriginal and can't begin to put to gether a rhyme in support of my cause...

No more boats, you have to be dreaming,
All we want is schisms and scheming...

A little too over the top, because quite frankly even if I lose I win, as any of the three updates in the running will make me more than happy!

Still... Schisms and scheming for my daily dose...

Incognitia - You have de-lurked for a noble cause.

TheExecuter - That song could be the tune tanks use to march to victory!

C&D - You are excused and your vote will still count, because that's the kind of man I am.

Nathan Madien/DonnieBaseball - I had assumed Jumbo Wilson, certainly I can't think of any other candidate but then it's not my song.

RAFspeak - You will not be swayed from your priorities will you?

Karelian - Indeed, the internal combustion engine not the geared steam turbine is the future!

Carlstadt Boy - How better to restore the glory of Empire than with new technology? After all the Victorians had a second industrial revolution to help build the Empire, surely the Georgians can have a third industrial revolution to ensure Britannia rules?

Bafflegab - Who needs a rhyme when the cause of scheming has the esteemed Voter Colonel Bafflegab to stuff the ballot box?

Ciryandor - Ordinarily I wouldn't allow that but as it makes no difference (save making the totals look more impressive) I'll let it pass.

Tanks and Trucks - XIV Votes
Schisms and Scheming - XX Votes
Battle-cruisers and Dive Bombers - XIX Votes

The gap is still at one vote at the top, but tanks has closed the gap down to only five votes. With scant hours till the polls close (say 0800 GMT ish) can Davout's outstanding musical contribution drag further lurkers out of the shadows and into the polling post to complete a quite astonishing armoured come back?
