Fascinating stuff coming from all sides on this Ottoman subject. This will really be an interesting theatre when the Mod is done.
Keep the good info coming!

I like it, gives a chance for Germany to intervene and start a Germanic-Turkish war too- there's your reason![]()

It turns out there really was a Crimean independence movement in 1917-1918 but it was put down by the Russians. They had their own flag and everything!
Ismail Bey Gaspirali (1851-1914) was a renowned Crimean Tatar intellectual, whose efforts laid the foundation for the modernization of Muslim Tatar culture and the emergence of the Crimean Tatar national identity. The newspaper he published Tercuman /Perevodchik (1883-1914), functioned as a school through which a national consciousness and modern thinking emerged among the Tatars. His New Method (Usul-ü Cedid) schools, numbered 350 across the peninsula raised a new Tatar elite. This new elite, which included Noman Çelebicihan and Cafer Seydahmet proclaimed the first democratic republic in the Islamic world in 26 December 1917. However, this republic was short-lived and destroyed by the Bolsheviks in January 1918.
During Stalin's Great Purge, an entire generation of statesmen and intellectuals, such as Veli Ibraimov and Bekir Sıdkı Çobanzade (1893-1937), was destroyed on false charges.
I'm going to look up these names and a few others and they will probably form the leaders for the Head of State, Head of Gov't, etc... It certainly adds to the whole "historical plausability."

Crimean Tartar Republic

Numan Celebicihan- Head of State
*note, in our timeline Numan Celebicihan escapes to the Ottoman Empire rather than being killed and continued to support the separatist movement in exile, returning at last during the outbreak of the new independence movement.

Cafer Seydahmet Kirimer- Head of Government
Shevki Bektore- Foreign Minister
Bekir Sidki Cobanzade- Head of Intelligence
Veli Ibrahim- Minister of Security
Tahsin Yazici- Chief of Staff
Fevzi Çakmak- Chief of Army
Edige Mustafa Kirimal- Chief of Navy
The only one I didn't find was a guy for the airforce. Some of these people were part of the Turkish government rather than Crimean but since first the Russians and then the Soviets butchered so many Tartars and forced them into mass exhile, it's not that surprising that it's hard to find prominent figures.

Speaking of which, I am creating an event series where the ottomans begin demanding territory from the arabic states, which eventually forms a sort of "arab league" to hamper ottoman expansion. It will probably culminate in war.

KaiserBenjamin, those ideas are very good. I think that the Tatar chaos could start in Ukraine about the same time as the socialists start grumbling, or maybe as a result of forced syndiclaist collectivization (which can happen as of now, too).
Though I wonder what happened to Sarmy...

So when do you think the event would fire? I was thinking after the Agricultural Crisis but before the whole Khruschev event series.
Also, I wouldn't mind getting involved in the actual coding. I took a Java class last year so I at least know the basics involved in coding in general.
event = {
id = ?
random = no
country = UKR
style = 0
trigger = {
#### if the event is triggered by a certain day rather than an occurrence, what does here?
}
name = "Tartar separatist movement"
desc = "Although the Russians were successful in putting down a Crimean Tartar independence movement during the Great War, a strong Tartar independence movement has continued since the creation of modern Ukraine. With the recent chaos in our government and the agricultural crisis, the Tartars in the Crimean region are threatening to succeed. This would stretch Ottoman influence dangerously close to our border, but the German officials have made it clear they have no interest in getting involved in a regional conflict. What’s our next move?”
OK, so then, before the different possibilities as represented by the action_a, action_b, etc... there's a picture= , and a date, and offset, and an end date.
What are all these? I'd love to help out directly if someone's willing to coach me through the process a little bit.
On a side note, is it possible for a country to start out the puppet of another country? I would also like, if at all possible, for the Germans to have an option to stay out of the war, so is it possible to remove Ukraine from the German alliance right before this event is triggered, or something like that? How would all that go down?
Use 'extend' or 'expand' rather than 'stretch' with regards to the influence. Stretching their influence has connotations that it would be a good thing for Ukraine...As stretching power means you're putting it under pressure.

I updated the Province file to give the Ottoman Empire some more IC. I spread out an addition 20 or so IC throughout something like a dozen provinces; places I thought Industry might develop. I tried running the game with the Shortcut to KaiserReich with the updated Target: "C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron 2\HoI2.exe" Kaiserreich 0.3
and it worked with the updated Pronvince information.
However when I started the game normally with the Mod activated with the JSGME program, it used the old pronvincial info. Does anyone know why that is? And who should I email the updated Pronvince file to and what's their (your) email address?
or if you feel like inputting it manually, here is the updated pronvince data that needs to be inputted into the Province.csv file. Just replace the existing province text with this one. Just don't get the excel line and the province ID mixed up, they're two off.

This is an interesting line to follow up on. I ran across a lot of very interesting reading while looking for pictures of Bekir Sidki Çobanzade. I was really amazed not to find any pics at all because their are dozens of websites with info about him and the purges of the Crimean Tartars. You can buy books of his poetry at Amazon, biographies of him, there are e-communities of Crimean Tartars with websites about him, but not one pictureOriginally Posted by Afsin

no kidding, I had the exact same experience when I was looking for a picture.
