My bet is: the finns can't hold out, but Uncle Joe will settle for a few provinces. :D

And now, let the sitzkrieg take place!

(Part Two)

Early in the War there was a small incident in Norwegian waters that triggered some unorthodox thinking in the otherwise landfocused German Highcommand. A plan for occupying Denmark and Norway was set in motion.

The Allied Highcommand also planned to land troops in Norway in case of a German invasion.

WAR!

The German Plan was set in motion by the political establisment on the 12. of March 1940. The German landforces where completly surprised by the political demand to knock out Denmark and Norway.
Troops where rushed to the Danish Border and 3 Marine Divisions stationed in Danzig, where mobilised for the invasion of Norway.
MNT. Divsions dug in at the Franco-German border where rushed to The Baltic seaports for transfer to the Norwegian front.

DENMARK

Three Panzer divsions from the dutch border rushed to the Danish front and overran Jutland.

German airforces mounted an agressive bombing campaign on the Danish capital. While The German navy shielded an invasion taskforce invading København. In heavy snow and ice the German Marine-Sturm divisions smashed the Danish forces and occupied The capital.

The Danish Surrender was accepted. And German Garrison Div. was quickly railed in to supress any resistence.

Some lowlevel Danish diplomat refused to listen to the German occuppied Danish government and signed a treaty with the United States of America and Great Britan, handing over temporary control over Iceland and Greenland to The Allies.

NORWAY

The attack on Norway was a huge gamble, the German navy had no intelligence about the whereabout of the allied fleets and no friendly aircover as they sneaked two mountain Korps along the Norwegian coast towards Narvik. The landing in Southern Norway by three Marine Div. deployed straight from the battle of København went according to plan. Oslo was occupied after a quick assault.
The Allied plans for defending Norway seemed to have failed. No resistence apart from some badly organised Norwegian divisions where encountered.

(Southern Norway at the end of the Norway Campaign)

(Northen Norway at the end of the Norway Campaign)

The resistence in Norway to German occupatation was heavy, and the lack of German garrison Div. resulted in the forming of a partisan army in Norway. German firepower and superior numbers quickly smashed the Partisans and executed the ringleaders.

Bad News from Finland. The Finns folded just one Hour after Germany declared war on Denmark and Norway.

The Finns may have lost the War but, We now have a potential ally where we can deploy troops in an upcoming conflict with the USSR.
The strategically important city of Leningrad Could be knocked out of the war by a Powerfull German trust out of Finland.

Correct about Finland :) There was a small Scandinavian interlude in the Sitzkrieg though.

Now, I am eagerly waiting for the gate to be opened and let the cattle run by. :D That is, if you understand what I meant. :p
