    AUSTRIA-HUNGARY
    *ABANDONED*

    (No Comments Submitted)

    ENGLAND
    Leglaen

I have 2 options: attack Russia via the North or ally with Russia and stab Germany. Either way, I am going to advance into Sweden and the Med this turn. Next season will prove whether or not I am to attack Russia. I am afraid of the Juggernaut, but I may take the suicidal and perhaps stupid risk of stabbing Germany. Time will tell.

    FRANCE
    State Machine

My reasoning is that the only possible way for France to survive is as a German puppet - and France can be very beneficial in this regard. So, I may force interesting results just following that line. I muse about English negotiations. And, if Austria re-awakes there is potential. Meanwhile, Turkey will be happy.

I feal a bit guilty about this since it introduces a new dynamic to the game... But, it will likely be short-lived...

I've done a deal with England and Germany where Portugal remains mine (probably not for long). Italy takes Marsailles, so he can build a fleet, and England expresses a fleet into the Med. If it works out, I think the Med can be cleared of the Turk in a couple of years or so.

Alas, I don't know if the Italian misunderstood that he goes for Marsailles, now. And the Italian warns me that Germany might see this as an opportunity to take all of Iberia (and probably Marsailles, too) in one go. Oh well...

    GERMANY
    Forzaa

The war is very obviously on the continent at the moment, Army is way more useful now.

    ITALY
    Czar1111

Maybe, State machine can influence Turkey and force a reversal?

    The Diplomacy
Both Austria and France NMRed. I lost Greece as a result.
To say I felt let down was a gross understatement. This is one of the major
problems with PBEM games and the reason why many sites restrict the number
of games new players may play in.
In my case this was particularly bad as I had been left dangerously exposed.
I would have liked to have capatilised on the NMRs buy snatching up the
supply centres – but with what? All my forces were committed against
Turkey. Even with a build in Venice I would be unable to snap up Austria’s
    supply centres.

Russia had indeed played for Denmark… with a unit that did not exist. A
mistake or a deliberate mis-order? My guess was a mistake – Germany was
very lucky. At least I hoped that was the case as the alternative was a
German / Russian alliance in the making.

I contacted Russia and Turkey and suggested that I lay down my arms and join
them as a triple alliance. Also suggested to Russia that he and I should be
aligned. No response on either proposal. I was in serious trouble. I
began planning my withdrawl. The army in Syria would remain (abandoned –
Sorry Boys!) as it was not worth trying to recover it and besides if it was
destroyed I would get a home build (which is what I wanted).

Germany contacted me and asked how to defend against the East. Told him I
thought it might be too late.

Then there was a surprise: the arrival of State Machine (France) made the
game interesting again. New players tend to do this. Why he chose to take
on France in the state it was in? I decided he was a masochist. Good on
him though, I would help the best I could. It turned out that he knew the
Turkish player from previous games! Turkey was an experienced player after
all and the fact that the new French player gave us hope. Would this be
enough to turn Turkey on Russia?

    The Move
I had to withdraw and get myself back to a defensive line. I had to stop
Turkish fleets Getting into the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic. If I could not
    do that I was dead.

    RUSSIA
    Heagarty

With the NMR orders for France and Austria, the possible retreats by France to London, Belgium, and Venice never took place, nor did the ability for Gascony to bounce Germany in Paris, and actually build a new unit.

With Austria no returning moves, we’ve finally cracked the Balkans and can move ahead. ... but not if I have to play defense in the North.

I miswrote orders that would have moved the Baltic Sea back to Sweden, but I read off my notes from an earlier move and botched it. Oh well. If I am lucky I can convince everyone I meant to do that as a “ruse”.

As it looked after the Fall moves, England now has strategic positioning on me, and did, in fact, take Norway. Germany positioned themselves to block any Russian advances, and was able to build in all of his open supply centers.

So are things as grim as they sound?

Maybe yes, maybe no. England has approached me about working together against Germany. If he is sincere, this saves me from England, and may net me a German SC or two. If he is not, I’m getting set up for a big fall.

But nothing ventured, nothing gained. This season’s moves will indicate that England and I are still hostile and I am sending out e-mail to that effect, but it should set us up for a strike against Germany in which we don’t actually take each other’s supply centers...if England abides by our agreement.

State Machine has joined the game as the new French player and is already attempting to sow chaos. The only thing which may work against him is that his reputation for being wily precedes him.

Turkey and I have reconfirmed our alliance. Perhaps Turkey will stab me one day, but I will ride this alliance for all it’s worth. Italy, without an ally, desperately wants to ally. I don’t know what to tell him. I try to keep the lines of communication open, but the chance for an alliance with Italy is likely long over. Certainly Turkey sees Italy as the next target. And why should I turn against Turkey?

If England is truly with me, then 1904 will mark an important turn in the game. If he is not, they’ll be drinking gin instead of vodka in St. Pete’s by Christmas.

    TURKEY
    Josephus I

    WINTER

Well, what a difference a turn makes. Although I don’t like NMRs, I have to admit Austria’s collapse has put me in a good position. I believe I now have the Italians on the defensive and it’s a matter of time before I push them back to the mainland.
I have to look ahead and see that Germany will be my biggest enemy soon. A combined Anglo Saxon thrust into the Med and Italy will put them into direct conflict with me. Any casual observer can see that we are facing a clash of West vs. East.
Russia and I may try to convince the Brits that it’s in their better interst to ally against Germany; but if I were England I would be skeptical. I may agree to an armistace, for now, with Italy, providing he move eastward into France.

    SPRING
Russia tells me that Italy is interested in an alliance with us; but strangely I haven’t heard from Italy. Frankly, though, at this point, it no longer interests me. I think I now have Italy on his knees…time for the coup de grace.
In any case, Russia now tells me that he’s brokered an agreement with England. We need to bring Germany down to size, so that’s not a bad thing.
And the news is that State Machine is now France. Somehow, I don’t even think HE can rescue them from their plight….but we’ll see.

    ENGLAND
    Leglaen

Well, with this set of orders I am hoping to radically alter the existing alliance structure by stabbing Germany and hurting Russia at the same time. I expect Turkey to assist me by stabbing Russia and taking Rumania/Sevastopol. France will also be of assistance as seen through A Gas-Bel.

I admit I was tempted to do a solo attack on Germany, one that could possibly take 3 German centres(and Portugal), but I have decided to go for the long-term benefits of better position vis a vis the German homeland and an alliance with the French/Turks. I just hope that both Germany/Russia are cut down to size in time. They have the advantage of the central position....if they can utilize it is another question.

    FRANCE
    State Machine

Well, I can't say that I stimulated events. But it seems that England is interested in stabbing Germany, and has enlisted Russia - and has also enlisted Turkey to stab Russia. Bravo!

My part in all of this is that I had previously made a strong pitch to Turkey to stab Russia - so Turkey asks me whether I have any knowledge about English intentions. I copied the the Turk letter to the English who was quite happy to see that the Turks were serious. Then I copied the English letter to the Turks to show that the English were quire serious. And... I have some prospect as a result...

    GERMANY
    Forzaa

Hmm, odd French orders, leaves open the opportunity to eliminate them, less risk of a backstab later on, less communication needed if we need a stalemate.

Austria looks like dead meat aswell, leaves 5 nations to fight for the win, or possibly a stalemate. English-German position looks good to keep a stalemate, probably get better than that (although an English stab cannot be ruled out)

    ITALY
    Czar1111

    The Diplomacy
Austria NMRed again meaning that Russia marched into Vienna with no
    difficulty.

France (State Machine) actually did a brilliant job of his Diplomacy and
managed to convince Germany to give up Marseille for Spain. He did this
    without moving his units. Bravo.

At this point I was concerned that the Austrian unit from Vienna would be
dispanded and it would be impossible to defend Trieste as a result (2 armies
facing 3) but then CatKnight allowed a new player into the game as Austria.
He promptly withdrew to Tyrolia and made the defence of Trieste seem
    possible.

There was however one major problem: I now had two VERY desperate players on my borders. Both were desperate for Supply Centres and there was one supply centre they could take: VENICE. I was in no position to argue if they tried it. I just had to hope that they would see that by attacking Venice they would lose Trieste (and the game). But the irony was not lost on me – Austria and France had NMRed. The ONLY player on the board who had not gained from this was me. And before I could gain? Two new players who probably had most to gain by attacking me. Sigh.

In other news – England had moved to Sweden and that hopefully meant that Russia would not get a build. That was good news because a fleet in StP(nc) would be a serious concern. I hoped Turkey would not loan Russia a Supply Centre.

Turkey started talking to me. He offered a cease fire. There is always
    hope.

    The Move

I abandoned the boys in Syria. It would be better if Turkey would simply
destroy them so I could get a build – but would he? If he was smart – he
would wait until Spring. I continued to support Trieste.

    RUSSIA
    Heagarty

I have had to rewrite this AAR about three times before and after submitting my moves.

It started off simple enough. Pursuing an agreement with England to attack Germany. On the board it only made sense, he could take three, maybe four, supply centers from France and England all in one swoop. I was continuing to work with Turkey, but Turkey was getting bottled up in the Med by the Italians. Worse, it looked like we couldn’t get Turkey Trieste this turn either, due to the Italians supporting it from Venice.

Then it all changed. I received a cryptic message from France, but attributed it to the player trying to psych me out. I would have thought France would have been more interested in working with me against Germany, but I had heard little and was more interested in the allure of an alliance with England.

Turkey seemed to be getting a little frustrated with his position.

And England....something kept bothering me. I had told Turkey about the possibility of England stabbing Germany, and Turkey said he had gotten some encouraging messages as well, but that England continued to try to push for a stab of me. Yet, in talking to England, and in all candor I wanted an alliance with him, he would become extremely defensive about any of my friendly “stop trying to get Turkey to stab me, okay?” messages, even implying, in my opinion, with offense that such a thing hadn’t happened.

Part of my need to ally with England is that he really has be in a bad spot, and really should be able to dictate terms to me. But the deal seems a little too good, and he doesn’t actually need me to help him for him to get the supply centers he wants. And he keeps dropping hints about a fear of a “yellow/white” board.

I talk to Turkey about it and decide I may need to hedge my bets. I really WANT to ally with England, but I’m just not sure. In my last e-mail to England I tell him I’m about 80% likely to go with his suggested orders, but suggest some alternate moves against Germany, too. His response just, I dunno, let’s say it did not reassure me.

So, I prepare my defensive moves, and look to try to knock out Austria if I can.

But, before I do, I share my moves with my ally, Turkey. I also put it to him that I recognize that I’m getting most of the rewards in our partnership, and that I’ll try to fix it, but that if he needs supply centers, just ask me. That if he just asks I’ll give them up, rather than him stabbing me. Probably not necessary, I think. But just in case, I really want Turkey to KNOW that I am serious about this being an alliance for the long-term.

Either I got lucky or the e-mail hit a nerve, or something (we’ll see from reading the AARs!) else got to Joe. In what we thought was the 11th hour (mix-up over deadlines) he reveals that he has to stab me in order to guarantee England will stab Germany.

I am shocked and cannot buy it. How can England “guarantee” anything? Why not just tell Turkey one thing and do another? Isn’t this just a ruse to break our alliance while the G/E alliance continues strong?

I wonder, could England REALLY be planning on attacking England as he had described to me? I would make sense, and there was kind of a logic to England and Turkey working together to take down the two largest countries, perhaps with France and Italy helping them.

The admission by Turkey, if it’s true, sent me reeling. It sounds like the deal between England and Turkey was brokered by France - which makes sense. France REALLY needs to do whatever it takes to break up Germany.

But I am in panic mode. Even if Turkey has revealed this to me, can I trust him? I plan on assuming England is hostile, but then what of Germany? Can Germany be turned if alerted to English betrayal?

Suddenly I’ve found myself with three large enemies and two smaller ones right on my borders. And there are only seven countries, including myself, in the entire game.

I exchange a lot of e-mail with Turkey. The fact that he’s exposed all of this speaks volumes to me that we can take this alliance to the end of the game....unless he’s still playing me, but I don’t think so. I am in his debt in a huge way.

However, in trying to determine what was going on with Turkey I desperately tried to find some diplomatic relief.

I e-mailed Austria, answering an inquiry from him, promising to leave him unscathed if he attacked Venice. That would let him keep two supply centers and could not be stopped. I can then use my Austrian garrison against Germany, or against Turkey, if needed. Turkey says he must execute his orders as planned, so that means I need my southern units to bounce his.

I send some e-mail to Italy, but I don’t know what help he can provide, other than maybe spread some rumors.

I admit, having sent the orders now, that I did act on emotion and not with my head in regards to France. Knowing the deal agreed to between England and Turkey, brokered by France, I turn immediately to Germany and try to alert him to impending attack. I know I shouldn’t have said anything to him, but my hope was to turn him away from my borders and, if the stab by England and France was real, that this would earn me some trust and an extension of our non-aggression agreement. I told Germany I got the word from Italy (not Turkey) that an attack was coming on both of us from our allies, engineered by France. I told him I’d still be defending against German attack, but would not attack Germany (and did not in my orders). If England does stab Germany, then Germany will be ready for him. What I did not think about is that it actually serves my purposes if England to one degree, and France to a much larger one, actually DOES take some German supply centers. Oh well.

I am hoping Germany will trust me on this and this will buy me some good will. England almost had me fooled, and maybe he will still attack Germany, but now I’m trying to:
    A) Protect my territory
    B) Earn goodwill with useful neighbors (Germany & Austria)
    C) Take a swipe at England (with my troops) and France (diplomatically).

I have now (re-write number four?) learned that in my e-mails to Germany (played by Forzaa) I have been referring to Italy (played by Czar) as “Forza”. So, at this point, Germany is likely completely confused but in no way can believe that “he” tipped me off about this attack. Dammit. Of course, maybe he and England had this plotted out in advance, that they’d “fake” a stab to get Turkey to attack me. Turkey and I had considered the same thing ourselves against them.

But the German SCs are RIGHT THERE FOR THE TAKING!

The orders are sent. Hopefully I’ve blocked Turkey but worked out our peace and alliance for the rest of the game. If Austria takes out Venice, that will be a big surprise and should help Turkey. I hope I can block an English and German attack, and I might even get Norway. But what will England do? What will Germany do? I just don’t know.

But I am sending my own cryptic message to France.

    WINTER

Well…well…well…..I decided to stab Russia. Not a decision to take lightly. It’s not easy to make. Russia and myself had a very solid alliance, and I never intended to do this.

But the geopolitical situation has changed.

    1. The war with Italy is just dragging on. I am in the driver’s seat and do see an opportunity for one SC by the end of next Fall (05). But while I do this Germany and England keep getting stronger.
    2. Austria’s re-emergence, of sorts, makes taking Trieste this fall an impossibility. I need one more SC.
    3. The game needs a new look. England has promised me to stab Germany if I stab Russia. This changes things; and might provide some needed invigoration to a game that is stagnating.
    4. The GM recently said we’ve "entered the endgame". I wish to prove him wrong.

Italy continues to be the thorn in my side. I’ve tried to negotiate an armistace. This stab is completely dependent on him not attackng me, as I am not supporting Smyrna . He could ruin everything, as he’s doen from day one.

Strangely, or ironically, knowing now that England is going to stab Germany (unless he is lying to me) would really play into the hands of the former Russian/Turkish alliance, doesn’t it? I could pass this on to Russia and he could plan knowing that Germany is going to be involved in a bigger war, and I could focus on Italy. In a sense, this is the break Russia and I have been waiting for.

    ####

I changed my mind at the last second. I’m trying to make it look like a stab without actually being one. Heag is in on this. I’ve told Heag all. Him and I are now trying to work this out.

Italy just isn’t being cooperative enough and I need to deal with him still before I can engage in a war with Russia.

I fully intended to stab Russia. But at the last second, I caved. Italy just isn’t being cooperative enough and I need to deal with him still before I can engage in a war with Russia. Also getting England to battle Germany is good.
Frankly I hedged till the very end. And this "bounced stab"...I told Russia to block my stab moves....may still make me look good to all sides, giving me one turn to hedge my bets.

The Fall turn was hilarious. England thinks the Turk stab was a sham. Turkey things the English stab was a sham. Italy tried to exploit the presumed Turk stab. And Germany blames it all on me. He wonders how I managed to set it all up. LoL Well, he was the only one not in on something (OK, maybe Austria), and ends up the big beneficiary. All I know is that I got took for a ride.

Well, it appears I was bamboozled by the Turks into thinking they would stab. Obviously, they played a trick. Luckily, I was able to mis-type orders and force a self-bounce. I am heading into the Mediterranean this turn, finally, as well as tacking north towards St. Petersburg and Norway.

The English haven't taken up my offer to retire to Portugal. Though it would be fun to order it anyway - more dramatic than a hold. Actually, the English haven't spoken to me so I figure there could be a rapprochement between him and Germany. The Italians consider themselves doomed...

    ITALY
    Czar1111

Well, after much negotiation I may change sides. Will probably get stabbed
for my trouble but worth a shot.

    The Diplomacy

The move began with my surprise that Turkey had forced the Ionian Sea in
    Fall 04.

That was about as bad as it could get. My forces were split in two and
Turkey was unstoppable. I would almost certainly lose one, if not two,
Supply Centres this year if I could not make peace with him.
If that happened, I would be out of the game in probably two years.
I was also disappointed at what had happened to France. He survived and
would keep German/English units tied up this year but would be unlikely to
    survive beyond that.

But from my point of view, I am exactly where I did not want to be.
Conflicts in the East and the West have been resolved… and here am I, a four centre power, stuck right in the middle. Worse still, I backed both losing horses and failed to even get a slice as they collapsed. I should have done better than that, Italy cannot afford to let opportunity slip away. So, what can I do?

Well, England has promised to send a Fleet to help me out. A whole fleet.
    Wow.

So, I am being used as a speed bump? England and Germany clearly think I
will continue to hold out giving them time to organise a defence. Of course
    – I will be eliminated in the process. But I have other ideas, like any country faced with this situation, if you can’t beat ‘em – join ‘em!

I approach Russia and Turkey and offer to change sides. Fortunately, I
still have good relations with both of them. The ‘insurance policy’ will
hopefully pay off. We agree to a plan, but can I trust them? It does not really matter, I have no choice.

England and Germany don’t even bother to send me a note. Always continue to support your allies – particularly when you are relying on them.

    The Move
I was now clandestinely working for the Juggernaut. No choice really. My
only shot at long term survival. So we set out to set up a convoy route
from one side of the Mediterranean to the other. It would look like I was
still fighting for my life but it was all carefully planned – I hoped.

    RUSSIA
    Heagarty

Well, well, well. Looks like France really did intend to stab Germany, but not England. Maybe he did but maybe when I tipped off Germany he took it straight to England? Looks like England had an agreement with France and kept it but bounced him.

Why do people do that? “I didn’t technically lie” - same result as far as I’m concerned.

Looking at it, I probably shouldn’t have told Germany anything. We won’t know until we read the AARs if England was really going to stab him, or if they were working together.

This year isn’t any rosier. Maybe we could take out Austria, but the position Turkey is in could leave to an Austrian retreat that would cause problems.

Not much intrigue this turn. No talks with England, France, Germany, or Austria.

But Italy approached Turkey and I jointly. Turkey and I talked privately and have said “why not?” It’s a seven player game with two players on their way out. Italy is a great growth opportunity for Turkey, but better to have 3 on 2 than be down 2 nations to 3. It’s probably more likely we just don’t want to fight him this turn.

I don’t know what Turkey wants to do...work with Italy a turn or two, then stab him, or seriously work with him. Communication with Turkey hasn’t been good. Maybe this is the turn where, even after laying it all on the line last turn, he DOES stab me? Just because no one has talked to me doesn’t mean they haven’t blasting him...though they don’t appear to have lived up to their end of their bargain either.

Let’s see what happens. This turn is mostly defense and positioning.

    TURKEY
    Josephus I

    WINTER

Well what a turn. I’m not sure if my last AAR clearly showed what went on in my mind. Most of the AAR was written when I fully intended to stab Russia. The last bit was written after I changed my mind after a long discussion with Russia.

In the end, there were some key things.
    1. Italy. I couldn’t trust Italy enough to devote everything to the Russian front meaning that at best it was only going to be a halfway stab; and I wouldn’t get two builds even if I got Russia’s SCs because I had to leave two units in Turkey to prevent an Italian attack.
This ended up being the right decision, as Italy attacked me, no doubt hearing from England that I told him that "I was leaving Smyrna unguarded." This was true, until I changed my mind. In actuality I never deceived England….I never told him I changed my mind is all.
    2. Russia and I worked well up to this point…why ruin a good thing. After four years of battle, I had the Italians on the ropes…why compromise that to fulfill a British plan?

So I told Russia I was stabbing him. Russia told me that England wouldn’t go through with his promise to attack Germany, which was part of the deal I had with England. I stab Russia, he stabs Germany. I was still convinced England was sincere; but decided to work with Russia.
After debate, we decided for me to go through with the stab, but Russia would bounce me. This way if England DID stab Germany, I could always say I lived up to my end of the deal; but someone snitched to Russia. I could then say that "this sucked big time for me" and make some demands. I don’t know…maybe it was a stupid plan.

In the end, I’m glad I told Russia, as England deceived me; he never stabbed Germany like he was supposed to. Now, Italy is weaker than before…time to tighten the noose.
    ++++
Or so I thought then. After the last moves, Italy, half-seriously, requested that we form an alliance. Ita/Rus/Tur. Russia and I laughed our asses off. C’mon. Italy is dying. I’ve been battling him all this time; why stop now.
But then, Russia and I thought about it and we realized that the Anglo/Saxon alliance was stronger. If I kept battling Italy, this would play to their advantage. If we could get Italy on our side…we can swing the tide of war.
We approached Italy. As expected he fully agreed. Now, mind you, not sure how much we can trust him. Not sure how much I can trust him. But spring is not a bad time to test a new alliance. If we’re gonna bring him in, this is the turn to do it.

Italy promised us he won’ support Austria’s remaining army in Trieste. However Heagarty and I decided it’s best to wait until the Fall to finish Austria off.

So. My moves are in agreement with Italy. Italy will attack me, but I’ll move to Tunis and move out in the Fall. I’ll attack his army in Syria, dislodging it (doing him a huge favour, I realize), so he can rebuild it in the next spring in Italy. Just in case Italy decides to do something stupid I’ll protect Smyrna.
The idea is that Italy and I could move against German/English units in France; while hoping to relieve some of the pressure from Russia

Well, now that I have a fleet in the Med, I hope that this will allow myself, Germany, and Italy to hold off the Turk while we advance in the North, where we have the advantage. Also, hopefully Iberia will become English soon...

    FRANCE
    State Machine

Some messages at least, that's encouraging.. hopefully the central (German) and southern (Italian) lines are strong enough while Scandinavia moves forward..

And let's hope everyone actually does that..

    ITALY
    Czar1111

Turkey appeared to be keeping his word. He could stab me at any time of
course. The trick is to keep myself useful until I was once again strong
    enough to defend myself.
Turkey had ‘occupied’ Tunis to maintain the illusion that we are at war. He
and I both knew I can force him out of there – but that was not the whole
plan. If I could force him out of there with the help of my English ‘ally’
then we could achieve multiple goals
    - Continue to appear to be at war (thus disguising our plan)
    - Tie down the English Fleet (preventing him moving further into the
    Mediterranean)
    - Allow Turkey to ‘retreat forwards’ (Improving our position even more!)
The big danger would be if anyone spotted the ruse. My biggest concern was
the French Player (State Machine). I would have fool him – the others would
    probably be easier.
I bashed of a cry for help to England and managed to get him to promise to
    support me back into Tunis.
Much of the rest of the turn was spent discussing Tactics and options with
Turkey. I wanted the Turkish Fleet to finish up in North Africa – from
there we could hopefully force the Atlantic. The big concern was the
English fleet there. If he advanced his fleet to North Africa the Turk
would have no-where to retreat to. This would not be a complete disaster as
he would get a build this turn – but it would take time to get it back
there. We decided to rely on the Englishman’s desire to capture Supply
Centres instead of tactical play and forethought. I picked that he would
    probably go for Portugal.
There was also the concern that my planned move toward the west would tip
them off to the whole plan. The covering Diplomacy would be critical.
Finally, so as not to hinder my new allies I would not support the Austrian
Unit in Trieste – hmmm, how was I going to get away with that?

    The Move
I moved to recapture Tunis with English support while moving my other Fleet
West from ION – TYS and conveniently ‘forgot’ to submit orders for my unit
    in Venice. Oops.

    RUSSIA
    Heagarty

No diplomacy with anyone other than Turkey. Not even Italy. Our ruse fooled no one. We are counting a lot on Italy working with us, more so than I am comfortable with but we don’t have much choice.

Austria and France are on their way out. Germany and England will take Norway this turn, but I think I can keep them out of Warsaw.

Turkey should attack my southern fleet to disband it, and it will be rebuilt as an army in Moscow. Norway will simply disband.

I’m supporting Turkey into Trieste, which should finally eliminate them and allow me to move those armies north.

I see a few mistakes clearly that I’ve made that may cost me the game. We dickered around too much with Austria. Should have eliminated them when we had the chance, rather than the little betray-or-not-betray dance. Also, and somewhere La-Z-Boy general is yelling “Told you So!” maybe I should have moved faster into Germany. I still think it was too risky to move in before Austria was defeated, but the delay in taking Austria, and the remote hope that I could keep peace with Germany ultimately led me to the current situation.

My only hope is that I can reduce losses to G/E while Turkey grows and, if Italy is truly with us, they can get into the Atlantic and start pulling some enemy armies off my border.

Or maybe one day England really will stab Germany.

    TURKEY
    Josephus I

Not much going on this turn really. Italy and myself, if he can be trusted, and I am know moving towards trusting him some for now; are planning on his attacking Tunis and I retreat from there to North Africa. A slightly dangerous plan if England or Germany go to North Africa themselves. Which may happen. I’ll lose a unit if that’s the case as by going Greece – Ion Sea I have nowhere to retreat.

Serbia should take out Trieste this turn and say good bye to Austria. Assuming Italy doesn’t support Austria as he’s supposed to.
As planned with Russia, I’m taking out his fleet this turn allowing him to rebuild as a more-needed army.

Damn, misguessed the French move.. and that English failure to convoy is NOT a good thing.. I can only hope it's a mistake and not some intricate plot. Russia will likely disband her fleet to build an Army in Moscow, so we're up for some serious trench warfare..

    The Diplomacy

The move went just as Turkey and I had hoped.
Now I swung into Diplomatic overdrive to explain why I had abandoned ION.
“That bloody Turk deceived me!” I howled. “I am going to get revenge! I will
build a fleet in Naples and kick his ass!” But, the great thing about
Naples as a Build Centre is that you can move in either direction from
there. The main thing I wanted was to make sure England did not commit any further fleets to the south.

The big concern was that France had survived. I had hoped he would be
eliminated to make the deception easier. Then I got a message passed on
from Turkey. It appeared they had swallowed my story… and no-one even asked about Venice! We entered the Spring move with France / Germany and England expecting me to move East.

Well, I think England goofed that turn. Better for us.
This next turn is pivotal…(when aren’t they?) If Italy does move to Piedmont, I know finally he’s in.

Russia would like me to build an army and I can see why we need one extra army in central/east Europe but I’m gonna build a fleet so Italy and I can have a line of convoys stretching to the Atlantic. I’m a bit worried that Italy stands to gain more SCs by this alliance, but we’ll see how it turns out in the end.

If Italy fully turns against England/Germany I believe that England/Germany will be destroyed. The retreat to North Africa will allow us to take out England’s fleet with ease.

Alright, so after yet another mis-written set of orders, I am now hopefully going to retake Norway and we will concentrate on destroying Russia and Turkey. Italy and Germany have proven to be steadfast allies so far and they should continue to be for the future.

Gads, I think I'm finally going to die this turn... I figure the German to try to spend the least amount of effort to run me to ground. As such, maybe between Paris and Brest I may still end up with a center, and the German doesn't pay any greater price and such...

Not much Diplomacy this turn. Folks are pretty much in their final camps.
Coordinated with Turkey and had a private exchange with Italy, pointing out opportunities and affirming that Italian expansion into France and Spain are to my benefit.

Nothing from France, but that may be best for now.

Not sure what people think of the Russian/Turkish relationship. We’ve thrown a few curve balls, but the builds likely confirm our cooperation.

I’m still in it long-term with Turkey, even if that means making sacrifices to them.

Seems like we are moving from the intrigue-heavy phase of the game to the tactical stage. Unless someone can pull of a dramatic coup (it all rests in Italy’s hands), we’ll jockey for position and stale-mate line positions.

OK. So all going well, this is the turn the tide turns. Italy should make moves that will obviously divide the map between the two sides.
My fleet moves to the Aegean Sea in order to provide a line of convoys stretching to the Atlantic. My North African fleet supports the Italian into the West Med and will likely dislodge the British fleet if he moves Portugal to the Atlantic.

My armies in Turkey move to be in a position to use the Aegean Sea as their convoy route into Europe.

Russia should be able to hold the line in his part of the map and with the unexpected Italian move westward, the Brit/Anglo alliance will have to shift to the defensive.

    RUSSIA

    RUSSIA
Italy seems to be on-board with our alliance, which is
a big relief. Barring some bizarre betrayal, he'll
move into France this turn, taking a German SC.

Turkey's in the driver's seat for the alliance, and
it's our goal to get him into the Atlantic. We have
discussed Munich, and agreed Russia should take it so
I can rebuild my soon-to-be-toast Army in Norway in
Warsaw. I'm happy to give it up if I can get from
Munich to Kiel or Berlin next turn.

A bit worried about the German player, his NMR seems
to have sapped his interest. If he abandons the game
that will really change the dynamic. I moved for a
Draw - All Sides Win, but it failed. The NMR did
advantage me, but I still contend the French NMR a few
turns ago really helped Germany and England, and even
Italy. French units could have taken Venice and
Belgium or London, and could have kept the Germans out
of Paris and they could have even built another unit,
but for the NMR. I'm not bitter, really.

If Germany DOES stay in the game for now and we cross
his borders, I predict he'll bail next turn. If we
can't get a replacement, then I suspect the game will
end and I will finally have been a part of a winning
Juggernaut, even if it is a DASW. A few bad moves
along the way (as documented earlier) but win or lose
    it's been a good game.
