Carthago Nova! The place for an aspiring Eutopian politician to see and be seen in the political district of Eutopia City. Sitting cattycorner to the General Assembly building, the famously upscale restaurant and bar started its life as Eutopia City's Freemason lodge when the city was first established. In the early decades of the 1900s it became Eutopia's first gold exchange, and during the Second World War served as a bomb shelter for the Estates-General. After the war it was bought up by a wealthy ex-politico and turned into the premier watering and feeding hole for lobbyists and politicians alike. In the shadowed booths, agreements are made, laws hammered out, and fates decided...
These days, representatives of the following lobbying groups can regularly be found here:
Armed Forces Serviceman's Fund (AFSF) -- Interests: Improved living conditions for active-duty servicemen, pensions and healthcare for veterans.
Defenders of the Eutopian Environment (DEE) -- Interests: Environmental protection and regulation, endangered species, fisheries.
Eutopian Business Association (EBA) -- Interests: Protecting business, increasing profits, keeping wages and regulations on business in check.
Eutopian Civil Liberties Union (ECLU) -- Interests: Civil liberties, free speech, democratic government.
Eutopian Congress of Labor (ECL) -- Interests: Labor rights, wages, worker's insurance, working/living conditions.
Eutopian Firearms Association (EFA) -- Interests: Reduced strictures on gun ownership, exceptions to the criminal code for using firearms in defense of property or person.
Eutopian Homosexual Association (EHA) -- Interests: Gay rights, gay marriage, right to adopt for homosexual couples, hate crimes legislation.
Royal Foundation (RF) -- Interests: Official recognition of the monarchy, increase in the monarchy's power, protection of the monarchy's property.
Society for Good Governance (SGG) -- Interests: Good governance issues, greater transparency and accountability in government.
Soldiers of God (SoG) -- Interests: Encouraging governmental recognition of and support for religion, anti-abortion, anti-homosexual rights.
(OOC: This thread is a place for Eutopia's politicians to contact representatives of special interest groups, and attempt to secure their support, be it for specific pieces of legislation or during an election. The role of interest groups is described in Rule 38 of the FAQ; the ten groups listed above are the most powerful in Eutopia, and will help to decide elections. Other, smaller groups, such as those that might occasionally appear in the von Streusser Report, can also be contacted here.
Remember -- special interests want to be solicited. They want to know what you're going to do for them. Woe betide those who count on their support without working for it!)
