A better way, in my opinion, would be to replace the 'you' with some Japanese guy. Then at the end, ask 'what do you think this Japanese guy should do?'.

Of course, it's just my opinion. Don't value it or anything like that. :eek:o

Anonymous:Actully,it would make my writing MUCH more easier, cause then i could narrate, and that would be better then right the word ''you'' a million times.I think ima try that, but i will keep the choices at the end

Kill that unworthy swine!

As for the Americans, British, Chinese, I'd advice:
1- Sue for peace with the American /British (you have the Dutch East Indies as a bargain tool)
2- If that fails I'd go with annonymous plan.
3- If that fails too, I'd kill the prime minister and them commin seppuku.

EDIT: If plan 1 succeeds you could focus yourself on annexing China which is the biggest prize.

I love these kinds of AAR's, maybe i'll right one some day.

Anywho I havent gotten to play the 44 scenario yet, but idid play it imn HOI1 and was able to win as Japan. While I know these are two very different games, perhapse the same over all stratgey might work for you.

In the orignal 44 scenario as Japan, the priority was always checking major allied advances. I pulled out of that giant bulge in south central China, and formed a defensive on the north border of the Yangtze river, while keeping a strong force in nanjing just incase. Then I mounted an amphibious landing all along the southern coast of China and reinforced the entier front. I quickly pushed for the Burmese border, through what is in this game yunnan, and linked up with forces in Burma. basically this splits China in to to fronts, and forces the Chinese to split his forces. The Northern one is soley defensive, while only western forces of the southern front need major offensive abality. This keeps the China theater quiet for a while.

For the British, I would send reinforcments and fall back in to Burma, and let them push inland, while holding on to the coast in the process, the trick here is to let the British advance, hoping they will stretch themselves out, and then when your forces pushing through Yunan reach the Burmese border, you can encircle the bulk of the British forces, and destroy thrm at you lesiure. If you can nuturlize the british forces in Burma, you have more or less one the game. The British AI mostly concentrates on Europe, and wont be able to replace forces like that very quickly, omnce you destroy their main concentration of troops, retake burma, and wait, dont advance into india, you'll stretch youself too thin and you still have the Americans to worry about.

Actully the problem is that Yunnan is damn slow to move in(mountain and jungle),and my TC is already over,so china for me is a big problem. Also,it might seem stupid, but the new patch who forces 4 hours of naval battle is very concerning(wich means im likely to island hop and use naval bombers instead of carrier's),and soviet's usually DOW at beginning of 1945,and thats a lot of division to contain...

The US is probally your most difficult foe, but their not un-beatable. I would reccomend evacuating New Guneia, and perpare to defend the phillipenes. Yes, naval bombers are you best hope, also try to concentrate what is left of the combined fleet, usually somewhere near Brunei, as the resources in that region are vital to your success.

Another idea would be to use some of your forces to trty and land in western australia. This is more or less just a feint, to draw off allied attention, just grab what you can and run like hell, maybe put some garrisons there, but nothing to make any kind of stand.

retaking saipan is a good idea, but difficult as all hell. Try to evacuate more remote out-posts, and consolidate your forces in key defensive areas. The inital phase should be trying to fall back and consolidate what you've got left.

Well,a gigantic thanks to all of those you gave their opinion.I will continue to ask for your support during the whole AAR,so im counting and you,and if i lose its YOUR FAULT!!!Just joking. Also, from now on i will write from a narrator point of view, cause its gonna be easier for me and i wont say the word ''you'' 4 times per sentence.

Anyway,i will say it again, thank you and keep voting and giving opinions,it is really the thing that drives me to continue.

It's not our fault. We're planning on the strategic level. You're supposed to be taking care of the details. If Japan falls, we're passing the buck onto you. :p

Good question, but if our land forces are strong enough, we may be able to finish off China. If America's fleets are too big, we don't stand a chance in the Pacific either. Our best option might be to take out China. I say option A.

Episode 3

''If you are afraid of people, you won't trust yourself and will be afraid of what you might do '' - L.Ron Hubbard

17th July 1944

As Akiro entered the room crowded with guards,he payed special attention to all the rules you have to respect when you meet the Emperor. He approached him with great care, and saluted him once more,as he did when he entered the room.Hirohito responded to him,and their discussion began.

Hirohito,Emperor of Japan:You are quite aware of the situation your in commander Shima right? You have murdered the prime minister of this nation.

Akiro Shima:Im a fully aware of my actions and i will take full responsibility of what i have done mighty Emperor.

Hirohito:Yes,that is the way of the Samourai i can see. However, you were aware of what Hideki was doing. In the last two days,i was able to receive the truth on the war,and i will say that i deserve this all cause of you.You have opened my eyes to the reality of Japan, and i thank you for that. That is also the way of the Samourai. You have done much more good then bad, therefor you shall be rewarded.I,Emperor Hirohito makes you chief of staff, replacing Tojo Hideki's military post.I will personnally take care of his gouvernment post, but i will leave you the military. Now go Samourai. You have a lot to do.

Akiro Shima:Thank you Emperor,i will serve you to my last breath.

Hirohito had been lied to since the Midway disaster because Tojo Hideki knew that the Emperor would have did everything to stop the war at that moment, and he would have demoted the prime minister to a lower post.So now,Hirohito in charge, the nation of Japan had a leader who would do his best for the empire.First, the peace proposition of china was accepted, but Japan kept the Shanxi region of Guangzhou,as well as the city of Shanghai,Suzhou and Nanjing. In the North,we were able to deal Beiping and Tianjin.

The Japanese foreign minister, with the Emperor himself, dealed skillfully and peace was made, but japan still kept a grip had some key provinces.

The burma situation looked bad,as the british had air and ground superiority, but with the peace treaty between China and Japan, reinforcement were going to be sent to fight the british. However, all eyes were looking at the IJN and at the battle of Saipan...(in case you are unaware of the position of Saipan, look at episode two.The Pacific map will show where it is.)

The Battle

This was the battle of the last chance for the japanese, who sent everything they had to control the Sea of Saipan,to support the Japanese Marines in their conquest of the island of Saipan. The island itself was very weakly defended by the Americans, and it was a question of days for the US Pacific command to reinforce the island so it could be use to launch attacks on the Japanese core homeland. The problem laid in the capacity to the IJN to provice cover for the Japanese Army to land on the island. The U.S Pacific fleet outnumbered the IJN in ridiculous numbers, but Yamamoto's brilliant tactics were something the Nippon Navy could always count on,even after the Midway disaster.

23h00 AM,3th July 1944
The entire IJN carrier forces approaches the region of Saipan, where they encounter the first American ships. The battle of Saipan begins.

4th July 1944

The 1st Phase

The American navy, who was stationed near the island, had received a call of an heavy enemy fleet approaching their position 2 hours before the beginning of the battle, thanks to the brilliant US intelligence. The Nippon launched 150 planes from their aircraft carrier's,and the Americans had prepared. The battle raged for almost an hour, and another 150 planes were launched from the IJN carrier's,while the 86 left who had fought during the first hours came back to reload.Battleship Yamato and Musashi on their side fought furiously, however the americans expected them and both ship payed an heavy price. The gigantic Battleships suffered an amazing amount of damage before they were both sunk. The mighty ships, after 7 hours of battle, were sunk by the planes launched by the USS Bunker Hill Carrier. They were avenged shortly after,as the American Vessel was sunk by the airforce launched by Carrier Hiyo.Destroyers were also sunk on both side, however Japan kept the advantage, despite being outnumbered. At 11h00 AM,the Americans decided to do a tactical retreat towards the east, waiting for reinforcement. The first phase of the Battle of Saipan was over.Despite retreating, the U.S Navy had gotten away with the first encounter on the winning side.

Japan lost - Battleship Yamato,Battleship Musashi,9 Destroyers(means 75%ish strength lost on 3 DD flottila's,as a flottila averages 4 destroyers) and 1Light Cruiser.

USA lost - Carrier Bunker Hill and 7 destroyers(80% of strength lost on 2 flottila)

5th July 1944

The 2nd Phase

The U.S navy had received reinforcement, and they quickly counterattacked, hoping to get the IJN before they could start loading troops on the island of Saipan.Their fleet was reinforced by 2 more Carriers. At the rise of sunset,Americans planes began moving towards the Japanese Aircraft carriers, confident after their tactical victory during the 1st battle. This would be a costly mistake,as Yamamoto quickly moved the 2nd Light Cruiser Fleet, who had a great speed, towards the enemy Carriers. An extremely risky tactic, has the Cruiser's would have to pass nearly unnoticed by the Heavy cruisers guarding the newly arrived American carriers.Yamamoto had done a 'do or die'' tactic, and he knew that if this failed,3/4 of the IJN light cruiser's could be lost. However, his risk payed off,as the americans were caught totally off guard and the carriers payed an heavy price. The light cruisers, with the help of the 14th Naval Squad based at the Palau Airfield(an island south of Saipan),sunked the 2 newly arrived Aircraft Carriers, while no ships were lost on the Nippon side. The IJN Carriers had took heavy damage, but all of them survived, and Yamamoto had succeced.Grand Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto, once again, had took the world by surprise and his fame was raised once more, after his downfall at Midway.BBC journalists began saying ''Isoruku Yamamoto is Japan's Erwin Rommel'' or ''In a certain way,hes the inventor and master of the Naval Blitzkrieg''.All eyes stared at the world's most famous Carrier commander who had just shocked the world with an amazing victory.

Japan lost - Nothing.

USA Lost - 1st US Light Carrier,USS Yorktown(CV)

6th July 1944

3rd Phase

The Americans, falling back once more but this time, they had suffered a stunning defeat.Grand Admiral Yamamoto, seeing the U.S Navy struggle during the last battle, quickly ordered a counter attack from his entire Carrier force.Once again, the brilliant tactician showed the world why he has the best commander. The IJN Carriers sunked several Destroyers and Light Cruisers,as well has an Aircraft Carrier.Japanese Marines at this point, were halfway from fully capturing the island.

Japan lost - Nothing

USA lost - 2nd US Light Carrier,USS San Juan(CL),USS Santa Fe(CL),4th Destroyer Flotilla(DD)

7th July 1944

4th Phase

At this point, every Japanese ship who participated had suffered damage.Crews were exhausted and disorganized, and they were begging for a break, despite victory's wich most of them hadn't seen in a while. On the other side,MacArthur, the US pacific forces commander, didn't have the same point of view. After two humilitating lost, the General ordered an immediate counter attack with fresh ships who had just arrived from Pearl Harbor. This time, this would prove to be a succesful counter attack. The U.S forces, with the help of the brilliant US army intelligence who was able to crack IJN codes, were able to get off guard a good group of Imperial Japanese Army transport ships. They weren't tranporting troops, but the damage was still heavy.Seeing this,Yamamoto quickly ordered his carriers to help the transports, who were extremely suppresed by the US ships. This would be a costly mistake, has the U.S intelligence were able to intercept the order and MacArthur quickly ordered an attack on the IJN carriers while they were on the move. The result of the American attack was even better then expected. They were able to sink IJN carrier Ryuho and Zuikaku,as well as their Destroyer escorts, had the cost of one of their carriers. After two battle's lost, the US finally got back the advantage and things looked dark for the Imperial Japanese Navy. However, the Japanese marines,at last, captured the island of Saipan.Objectif was achived for now.

Japan lost - IJN Carrier Ryuho,IJN Carrier Zuikaku,7 transport flottilas(empty),3 destroyer flottilas

U.S.A lost - USS Carrier Hancock

9th July 1944

Final Phase

Yamamoto knew that the IJN needed rest and most importantly, repairing for almost every ship and especilly his carriers. He had just suffered a big blow,by losing two carriers.Of course,5 US carriers had been lost since the beginning of the battle of Saipan, while he had lost two,but that was a mathematical point of view;the Grand Admiral didn't see it that way.Every carrier counted for him, because he knew that replacing them was nearly impossible. He decided that he would launch a final attack.Saipan captured by the Japanese Army,he did one more attack, hoping to cripple the US navy.Once again,he showed a great competence,by finishing the battle of Saipan with an amazing display of military knowledge and expertise.

3aarsaipanislandplan1ni.jpg

The final battle ended in a victory for Yamamoto's forces.

Japan lost - 1 Transport Flottila(coming back from Saipan)

USA lost - 3rd US Light Carrier,USS Wasp(CV),USS Indianapolis(CA)

This was enough for Grand Admiral Yamamoto.Isoruku knew that all of his carriers had suffered at least one hit,and also the majority of his forces were exhausted and disorganised. After this last victory, almost every ship were sent to dry dock's for reparation. This battle had sealed what would be known has:battle of Saipan.

Final statistics of the Battle of Saipan

Japan lost - Carriers(2):IJN Zuikaku,IJN Ryuho / Battleships(2):IJN Yamato,IJN Musashi / Light Cruisers(1):IJN Kashii / Destroyers(3):3rd,5th and 11th Destroyer Flottila / Transport ships(9):Entire 1st Transport Fleet(7),2&3rd transport flottila from the 2nd Transport Fleet

U.S.A lost - Carriers(7):1st,2nd,3rd Light Carrier's,USS Hancook,USS Yorktown,USS Wasp,USS Bunker Hill / Heavy Cruisers(1):USS Indianapolis / Light Cruisers(2):USS San Juan,USS Santa Fe

Saipan was now back under Japanese control, and the new Chief of Staff,Akiro Shima was glad to hear the victory. Now,would come a new challenge;whats his next target? It was clear that the IJN needed some time to repair, and by the time reparations would be over, two brand new aircraft carriers would come out of production, replacing those two lost at the Battle of Saipan.Shima, with the help of those two, would have an opening for a new target, however he wondered what his next target should be...

What should Akiro choose?

Plan 1:An aggresive attack to capture the islands near the Coral Sea,therefor allowing operations on the Australian land.

Plan 2:A powerful offense towards the islands of Micronesia(islands just west-southwest of Hawaii),allowing further operations in the pacific, including the capture of Hawaii, wich would severly cripple the American presence in the Pacific.

Saipan has been retaken! And...7 US Carriers have been lost?

Wow...

Anyways, as or what Akiro should do, how is your TC? Perhaps with good TC, an invasion of Australia might be good in permanently taking out a threat to the south, and turning the Aussies into loyal puppets that can contribute troops and stuff.

Wow, great update! The coverage of the naval battle was one of the best descriptions of naval warfare I've ever read in an AAR. I would say that an offensive in the south would make the most sense, especially since knocking out Australia would be a great blow to the allies stance in the pacific. Also, what are your plans for Burma/India, or will this be covered in a future update?

IMO it is best to consentrate on americans. You have already done some STUNNING damage, but more will be needed to clear the ocean so that you can fully consentrate on attacking Australia. When US still has some significant portion of naval power in hawaiji area, you will not be free for that. Or something. And, what's most importantl, it is more interresting to read naval battle reports than those common land fights we have loads of already ;)

So, move towards Hawaiji, sink US fleet and take over the island. That's what real samurai would do in this case: seek for one decisive battle and an ultimate victory! :D

Take out the Americans, they are now weak, but they will get new carriers, just load the scenario up as the USA and look at their buildqueue.
