May I be the first to congrulate you on a well deserved award. As a long time reader from way back, I always thought your AAR should have won a showcase award and now you have it.

Congratulations, and great job!

Congratulations my friend. Hopefully I will manage to catch up at some point.

Congratulations Canonized! Well deserved! :D

Five o clock in the morning and writing an acceptance speech ! I think that's a great way of expressing at how honoured I am for this award . Especially during studying for finals it's been a great boon to morale over here at the home front although I probably spent too much time trying to tinker with my sig XD .

Kidding and egotistical banter aside , I wanted to first thank RGB deeply for nominating Timelines . RGB has been a major friend with us for a long while and , honestly , I do hope it continues to be that way for a very long time . Those of us at Timelines who know him and see him come around are always appreciative for the hard work he puts into keeping in contact with us and he has done a great job in teaching me personally a lot about Eastern Europe and Central Asia . I look up to him in many respects for this wealth of information , but I also count RGB as one of the great writers that I know . It is true what they said about our generation , eh , old bean ? For those out there who may not know , RGB started writing his AAR (which I highly recommend especially for those who may not know as much about Eastern Europe as you'd like) around the same time I started to write Timelines as well as around the same time thrashing mad and grayghost started as well . There are many others in our generation , but I'm specifically dedicating this award to them and to RGB . It is through their continued patronage and reading of other AARs as well as updating their own (though those 3 i mentioned are particularly notorious about lateness at times XD XD !) . So this is for you , cheers !

Secondly , I'd like to thank the readers of Timelines for making it a great success . Special shout out goes to our fellows in Tempus including my fellow SEELE Judas Maccabeus and English Patriot as well as our Fellows General_BT , LeonTrotsky , Atlantic Friend , Jimbo , and our latest Fellow VILenin . You guys have been a constant support for me and a perpetual reminder why friendship is just as vital in making sure our AARs succeed . I wanted to thank our good friends and comrades at the Warlord Club including especially grayghost , Myth , and Mr. duggan . Thanks always for your constant support ! Among the lot of you , I wish some of you would come on MSN more ! XD

There is a special category of thanks I'd like to give to those readers who comment while in the middle of catching up . There is more rejoicing in the management for 1 comment than 99 views from lurkers ! (okay maybe I'm exaggerating just a little XD) . But you know who you are including comagoosie and specialist and mettermrck . Thank you for commenting along the way !

Let's not forget our usual lineup of king-makers XD mijn hollanders grubnessul and avernite , woot ! Let's not forget our Catalan brother Kurt_Steiner ; he's provided us with great encouragement and help ! The Executer , Murmurandus , and some of our newest readers like Capibara and ForzaA welcome and thank you ! If I missed anyone please , forgive me . It's late ! But feel free to give me a reprimand post for forgetting if I did XD . Thank you all again . Without your support Timelines would not be able to continue !

For all those in this thread who have been so kind and continue to support the great works out there , thank you all and I hope to see you all out there ! In the meantime , I'll be searching for a successor to sufficiently embarrass by this Sunday :D .

Awww. Thanks for the kind words.

And yes, you've a great reader crowd over at Timelines, it's always fun to visit there.

Cheers.

Very nice choice. Congratulations canonized :)

Congrats, canonized! Well done! Your Ceylon base ship still makes me smile :)

Alright folks , it's Sunday and that means it's time to do our succession ritual . - gets his tonsure scissors out - .. oh wait not that one .

First I'd like to thank those wonderful people who run this programme , it truly does help to encourage writers and readers alike . Encouraging writers to write and readers to read XD . In all seriousness , though , the community on AARland is a wonderful place and I hope that the continued growth of the community will only continue to bring more prosperity and fun for all !

As for our next AAR showcase , I wanted to highlight an outstanding AAR in the HOI2 section . Now , I know what many of you might be thinking: "- groan - not HOI2 again !" but I do believe that this AAR is deserving of not just this accolade but also of the accolades it and its author have already achieved .

This week's showcase winner is CROSSFIRES, a Croix de Feu France that might have been by Atlantic Friend .

What makes Crossfires unique ? Several things . Firstly , Atlantic Friend has weaved a convincing , erudite , and comprehensive alternate history . As one of the first Fellows of Tempus , he does our AH club proud with his continued work and diligence . Secondly , he interacts with his readers both jovially , academically , and stylistically making everyone a citizen of France and allowing them to vote . Thirdly , his characters speak of his skill as a historian , but also towards the way he has been able to write huge personalities into the story without derailing the alternate history-- nay , thus complementing the alternate history . Figures such as the future Pope Pius XII , Leon Trotsky , and of course the flurry of French politicians and generals ranging from the popular to the obscure . All are weaved into the narrative with the impact of a historical cameo but with the elegance and subtlety of a realistic encounter .

Therefore , congratulations AF , and please enjoy your week !

Congratulations! Excellent AAR.

Well done Atlantic Friend, congratulations :)

Congratulations AF! Well deserved!

Boy, do I wish they had an emoticon to say "Aw, shucks, folks, jus' tryin' to do my job there" !

Honestly, I am much honoured that Canonized picked me for the Showcase. And since the best way to react to praise is most probably honesty, then I started writing Crossfires, there were times when I'd sneak into the "General Discussion" thread to see if somebody hadn't decided I was the greatest writer on Earth.

Now, of course, I've grown a little bit wiser - and a little bit wider. However much I enjoy this honour, I know that the best kind of praise one writer can get is to have people read the story, enjoy the story and - be still my heart - debate the story with the author. So in true Academy Awards fashion I'd like to dedicate this week's Showcase to my readers. If it hadn't been for their loyalty, and their comments, "Crossfires" would probably have petered out a long time ago. If only one of them was enticed to go check who this French general or German politician was, then I'll have succeeded way beyond my initial expectations.

An alternate History can only benefit from a rich real-life History. In this respect I can only humbly express my heartfelt gratitude to a few billion men and women, from France of course but also from every corner of the world, whose lives and decisions shaped France's past, present, and future. Truly, Clio provided me with a cast of thousands.

Now, it's time to end the speech-makin', and to start the successor-findin'. I'll embark on that quest immediately, so you can have another Showcase before Christmas. Expect an answer on Thursday or friday, before yours truly leaves for a well-deserved Christmas vacation !
