    Exclamation Mongol Empire Scenario 0.3

    Mongol Empire Scenario 0.3

Now with two scenarios (1150 and 1205), lots of new countries,
new sprites for military units, and many other improvements...

The version 0.3 (12.7 Mb) is available at the following locations:

    Site 1: download 1
    Site 2: download 2

Just download the file. It's an executable installer so you don't have to do anything, except following the installer instructions...

Remember that this release is just a beta version. There is still a lot of work to do, and we need all the help you can provide. Feel free to post your remarks, suggestions and corrections in the forum.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    - EU2 1.08 installed

NOTE: As the scenario uses and executes Moctezuma's Unlimited Time Patch, a clean eu2.exe is needed. If you have modified the eu2.exe the Patch won't work!

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    1) Download the installer for MES 0.3 from the locations stated above.

    2) Make a backup of your saved games, if you want to keep them!

    3) Uninstall Mongol Empire Scenario version 0.2 with the uninstaller provided in previous releases.

    4) Execute the installer for MES 0.3
    - When asked for default folder, you must type in your default EU2 folder, or just search it with the "Browse" button, if it's different from the stated below the message. For example, in a spanish UbiSoft version this is "C:\Archivos de Programa\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Uiversalis 2", in other versions will be, for example, "C\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2", and so on...
    - After files extraction, the installer will make a copy of the "eu2.exe" in the moddir. Just after the previous action the Moctezuma's Unlimited Time Patch will be executed. The screen of the patch will appear. You have to press the Run! button and wait until the message "successful" appears. Then you must close the screen for the installer to go on.
    - If everyting goes OK a shortcut must appear on your desktop and a new menu group in your "Start" menu.
    - An uninstaller is also provided, so you can easily uninstall the scenario at will.

Good job! A litte technical problem though:

The 1150 Scenario seems to freeze around the early 1190's. I played two games, one as the Eastern Roman Empire (froze on 27 Feb. 1192), the second as Yemen (froze on 28 August 1191). Reloaded with the same unfortunate result.

The countries of India, the Uighurs and Adal cities are represented by that lovely "arrow."

    Suggestions:

In 1205: Bulgaria should also have Vlach (Romanian) culture. The Asens were Vlachs and they titled themselves as "Emperors of the Vlachs and Bulgarians."

In 1150: I like the disintegration of the Seljuk Empire. However, seems that the Empire (the Khorasan part) manages to survive and even extend its borders eastward. Kwarzim usually attacks only the Hamadan Seljuks, leaving the Khorasan emirs* in peace, while the Ghurids are too involved in India to care what happens on their northern border. Due to the above mentioned technical problem, I have not got to see how the Mongols manage to deal with them. So, my suggestion is: make Kwarzim, Quara-Kitai and the Ghurids scramble for these lands.

    Lithuania still sucks.

more to come, keep it up!

    Cheers!!

Bad news and weird, because Obelixeke and myself have played past 1200 without problems. Have you seen if just before the freezing some particular event appears? or some country becomes independent?

Hi Laur, glad you like the MES. Anyways, does the game freeze or crash? Does it give you any kind of hint about the bug? Do you rememeber if it was just before any given event (maybe 3rd crusade...)?

EDIT: mmm, guess you could answer mfigueras and myself... The post you like it most

Yep, you're right. The Empire disintegrates but it ususally recovers with many military alliances and such, gaining back many of their lands. That's why I even thought of including both Hamadan and Kerman seljuks from the start (which would also be historical) to weaken the Empire a bit more.
But I think I'll make most of the previous vassals (Hamadan, Khwarizm and Ghurids at least) attack the Empire after the death of the last Sultan in 1157, so at least they loose a couple of provinces in the first years of 1160s. This might cause some early conquests by Khwarzim and Ghurids, but better early conquests than no conquests at all. Besides, I'll drop a bit their quality and land sliders to make them an easy bait for its neighbours (as it really happened, btw)...

A little question on MES. Either 0,2 or 0,3

Are there any events surrounding Timur-Lane at all and his fight against the Golden horde or the Ottoman Bayazit specific?

I never played up until then and was just curious.

Whom do I need to play if I like to play as Timur?

And could one of you answer mine question in the 0,2 thread on Venice?

Thanks a lot and go on with the good work...

Not yet, but working on them. I've been very busy with earlier times, trying to script at least a couple of events for every starting countries until 1300, so I have not really concentrated on some nations that emerge after 1300.

Well, we're working also on a 1370 scenario which will be called 'The Last Fury of the Steppes', where the Timurids will be the main star. I'm also thinking that maybe by playing Chagatai Horde or Il-Khanate from the start on the 1251 scenario (also in process), the player could get the chance of becoming Timur by releasing some other provinces (to prevent an early Timurid empire by 1370, when it all started more or less).

Well, I'd be great for me if you could help me out with the Timurids and the Chagatai Horde, so I could concentrate on Anatolia and the Turks during those messy times.
As I told you before, no Timurid event has been scripted so you have 'free-hands' on the matter. Why don't you come over to our working forum at Languish? We can open a working thread over there and start discussing about the Timurids and such (there's a link to it in my sign below)

Ok had a quick shot of the MES 0.3...and it looks good so far.

Let me say the new sprites look really kool.

Whoever there appears to be an error in them...

Firstly does Burgundy and Arelate use the new "Generic" sprites that Aquitaine, Anjou, Tolosa, Sicily, Navarra, etc use? Or are they supposed to be using the generic EU2 sprites?

Second in battle with the new sprites they appear off to the side. What I mean is when you are fighting and the little box showing them fighting appears at the side the two sprites r supposed to be roughly lined up in the centre of said box and pummel each other but this is not the case.
With the new sprites appear to show at the far bottom left or far top right appearing half on the box and half off it.

Those are the only bugs I have noticed so far.

    ok, some quick responses:

    @Laur
I assume you started both games in 0.3 and not an earlier patch? If yes could you mail me the saves (zipped) so I can debug them? my email: kw.vandenheuvel*quicknet.nl (replace * with @)

The countries of India, the Uighurs and Adal cities are represented by that lovely "arrow."
    what do you mean?

In 1205: Bulgaria should also have Vlach (Romanian) culture. The Asens were Vlachs and they titled themselves as "Emperors of the Vlachs and Bulgarians."
I was of the impression though that in this context 'Vlachs' were slavic peoples who lived there and not the people that would be later known as Romanians. Besides that I don't think it would be wise if Bulgaria was able to rule so easily over Moldavia and Walachia - strictly speaking they never really owned these territories. Apart of that I do admit that the cultural situation in that region as we implemented it now is far from optimal but I don't have many better solutions.

Lithuania needs events. Feel free to provide them

@Machiavellian (if you read that thread, in response on the PM that mfigueras fwded to me)
If you play 1150 scenario you cannot play Welf, besides by reloading as that country after it appears in ~1155. In that case it does not matter if you play as Saxony or Welf - both countries are not meant to exist simultaneously before ~1200. If Saxony appears in 1155 you can play them, historically they will turn into Welf by 1180. If Welf appears you can continue playing them.

If you play 1205 scenario though you should take Welf - here Saxony represents the Saxony-Anhalt (or such) that appears around that time. This will be changed in the future as that Saxony will get a separate tag.

    @Singleton Mosby
Regarding Venice I cannot add anything vesides of what mfigueras wrote in the other thread - sometimes pdox ai behaves weird and there is no way to explain it or to change that behaviour. In any case Venice uses here the standard ai so it should behave like any other normal nation. If it doesn't then its behaviour must be in some way 'hardcoded'.

    @angelscotboi
Indeed some countries don't have their correct sprites assigned yet, we will try to fix it in next patch. YOu can change it easily yourself anyway in country.csv - the standard knight uses KNI for armynationalitysprite. Some states btw are sort of meant to use standard sprites btw for now (till we hear better theories ) - balkan and greek states wait for better type of units, alike Russia. Some Italian states would more logically use infantery armies than knights as well.

The battlescreen issue is a known problem which is probably unfixable as I cannot find a way to actually define the position of units in that screen to overwrite the pdox settings - iow it is hardcoded and the (mounted) units get placed wrongly as they are too big/long. Imho a minor glitch though if you don't like it you will have to revert to the standard units.

Those Knight sprites are SO cool...

anyway... I played a game as 1205 Mongols... a few things:

    - I got a lot of events with additional cores, but most of them added cores on provinces that I already had cores on... not a big problem at all... just wanted you to know.
    - In the Bukhara sacking event, the religion got changed to Heresy (pagan) intead of Pagan (Protestant)
    - After the creation of Chagatai, I ceded a lot of provinces to them (no problem there), but I didn't lose a couple of cores in southern Persia/Afghanistan nor Azerbaijan and Tabriz.
    - After a couple of those ceding events, I noticed that Krasnoyarsk was still owned by me, although Chagatai owned all other provinces within two provinces radius. Is this WaD?
    - Unfortunately the game bugged in the end of the 1230's... and it CtD upon load...

Well, the cores assignment might be a bit of the mess as some of it was added earlier as a backdoor in case that an event was missed which gave it - especially when starting in 1150. Later I changed some trigger though so I guess some of these backdoors are not needed anymore but it doesn't hurt to keep it anyway

I will review the cessation of provinces in these events.

For the Bukhara event I'll mention it to Obelixeke who works on that territory.

No earlier autosaves for that one? Always turn your autosave on when playing MES ... then if there is a repeating ctd then you can always mail the save to me so I can debug it and get the problem fixed.

Indeed, I get the same. Game froze in october 1191. When reloaded the autosave, it froze in april 1191.

The game does not CtD, it just freezes, mouse cursor does not move, everything goes still. Cntrl-Alt-Del states EU2 Not Responding.

hmmm, well, as mfigueras and Obelixeke I ran also with no problem up to 1193 in a hands-off game.... So I repeat: if you have a savegame, started under the 0.3 package (we do not support older savegames) which is not corrupted (say and older autosave) which ctd's or freezes in a year or so from the start of it please mail it to me on the adress I provided earlier in this thread - as we cannot reproduce it ourselves we need a save in which this problem appears to be able to fix it.

To make it very clear: Vlachs (Blachoi, Wallachs) was the name given to the Romance people in Eastern Europe, probably by the Goths. It has the same root as the word "Welsh" and it means Roman, whether Latin speaking or Celtic speaking, but never Slavic speaking. You should do well to read

    http://www.friesian.com/decdenc2.htm

There is no record showing that the name was also given to the Slavs. It's like saying "here the 'Welsh' represent an Anglo-Saxon people and not the people that would be later known as..."

The first Bulgarian khanate (the one destroyed by Basil II) it is said to have ruled at least Walachia and some parts of Transylvania (the Anonymous chronicler mentrions three princes in Transylvania at the time of the Magyar invasions: Gelu (Vlah), Glad and Menumorut (both Slavs, vassals to the Bulgarian Empire). So I see nothing wrong with the Second Empire pushing its borders northward (as the ahistorical option #2 in the Kaloyan's Ambition event ->they should also get at least CB shield on the Banat).

As for Moldova? Bulgaria should struggle with Galich for the control of that province: the Galicians are said to have pushed their borders through Moldavia and up to the Black Sea prior to the Mongol invasions (at least this is what prof. Paul Robert Magocsi argues).

    Cheers!!

    hi again guys.
Ive noticed another problem with the new sprites. When you are playing a country that uses them such as France, or Holland, for about a centimeter radius around the unit on the mpa you can select it.
To clarify if you press anywhere off the unit in about a centimeter radius - even off province - you select the damn unit.

There were a few other minor things I had spotted but I dont seem to be able to remember those at the moment...
Ill go have another look soon and see what i can see...

ok, thx for the clarification on the Vlach issue. I think I will add then the romanian culture for Bulgaria in next patch, even though the reason of Asens being Vlachs isn't actually entirely correct - they were possibly of Vlach origins but there are enough historians who doubt it, as reviewing my own sources. But it might be actually good for the balance and provide a stronger Bulgaria.

    @angelscotboi
I presume this is caused by the frame being bigger which originates from the fact that these were the frames in the original animations... this is not a thing that one can fix easily though. Also if this causes a problem then there must be more such units in standard GC - some use quite huge frames as well (like mkj's Polish units or various walking and fighting units for Japan or China). Anyway, again imho a small problem - it only happens with your own units and you can always turn into the other views to select a province, which you should be used to considering the fact that it is quite hard to select an island already with standard units being there (or a construction being underway) in standard game .
But if there will be indeed more complaints we will post a patch that then simply disables these units and restores the old one's for people who rather play like that.

Btw, so will someone out there send me a save in the nearby future?
