Damn strait; by the time I'm through with the South, "Reconstruction" is going to look like a mild rebuke

Maryland, Delaware, and Kentucky all joined The CSA? What did you do to tempt them so? :p

Maryland, Delaware, and Kentucky all joined The CSA? What did you do to tempt them so?

All I did was ocuppy them for a year and a few months and then I got these three events in a row. I didn't expect or plan for it at all. But it was a nice kind of surpise. Time to start those schools for Yankee reeducation. ;)

Can you say "ya'll" and use it properly in a sentence?

jb_civil_lincoln_1_e.jpg

from the New York Times
!!!President Lincoln Slain by Rebel Actor!!!

Last night at the grand opening of the Hammond Theater in New York City, the President was shot in the back of the head by the once famous and respected actor John Wilkes Booth. This paper blames lax security measures in time of war on the army whose job it is to protect the President at all times. The assassin Booth then leapt from the presidential box on to the stage, yellingthe motto "Sic Semper Tyrannis" or Thus always to Tyrants, as he made his escape. Once again the army failed, this time in being able to take down the murderer, who by now is most likely in Richmond sipping tea with the Skelaton president of the rebel states. We hope the government will go to any length to root out all who had anything to do with this atrocity. We can only pray that our nation can go on without our President, the only man that would have been willing to fight to reunify the country at all cost, including that of his own life.

from the Richmond Dispatch
-Lincoln Assassinated in Theater Last Night-

Mr. Lincoln went out last night for a relaxing evening at the theater in theFederal capital. Because of the provision of almost no security to the presidential box, the actor John Booth, famous both in the North and South, was able to sneak in and slay the President, making his escape by leaping on to the stage yelling "Sic Semper Tyrannis." While we are sure many fireeaters are overjoyed by this latter day "tyrannicide", we should never be excited by the cold blooded murder of a man, especially a head of state. All we can hope is this that this unfortunate incident brings the current war to an end within the near future.

February 14, 1864 - The Presidential Office in the "provisional" capital, New York City

The new President Andrew Johnson: So you just think you can waltz in here and browbeat me into peace, well you are wrong. I am from Tenessese, but I'll be damned if I'll ever be a traitor to the Union. That's exactly what the people would say if I signed this and I'd be lynched tomorrow. No sir, I reject this peace and any other that you rebels put before me! I would not care if you offered me the whole South, much less the Indian territory. I'd rather have defeat than dishonor.

Judah Benjamin, the new Secretary of State: Very well, mr. President. I will make your views clear to my government and...

Johnson: Make damn sure of it!

A Spring Opera and The Summer Soldier

1864-03-00 : April 1, 1864 : We went with Nothing like a good Opera in Opera House.

from the Richmond Times

The Richmond Society of Gentlemen for the Fine Arts has finally finished build the first opera house in the capital. Before this, New Orleans was the only city in the South that could boast of having such an edifice of high culture. One of the members of the Society said, “that situation was quite appalling, so we gathered funds from some Tidewater gentlemen and got the government to contribute a significant amount to the endeavor. It was money well spent.” Most people agree and are quite happy to see such a prominent displays of Southern civilization, even in the midst of our struggle for independence. Tonight is opening night and Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” is to be the first performance. President Stevens was invited but kindly declined the offer.

April 3: to the President and Congress,

We have been turned back in our efforts to take Pittsburgh by Federal forces in superior numbers. We believe that it maybe quite impossible to secure that region unless more troops are committed to the job. The army is currently withdrawing toward Harrisburg to regroup.

Gen. RE Lee

Elias Tarfarius gives us an account of operations following the Pittsburgh campaign

Lee had gone into the Pittsburgh campaign with five full divisions and came out with only 29,582. The goal had been to take the whole state to force the US to the peace table and to take away Pittsburgh specifically because it was the major industrial and military center for the Union. If Lee had been able to take and hold the region, the Union war effort in both New England and Maine would have been seriously crippled. Now at the same time, Gen. Jackson was repulsed at Germantown as he attempted to march to retake Philadelphia. This effectively put on hold any more offensive in the state until later in the month of April when a reinforced Army of Northern Virginia took the field again. At the Battle of Quaker Hedgerow (June 28), near Philadelphia, 35,000 under Lee and Jackson flanked and crushed 24,000 Union troops under Brigadiers Harrington (who was killed by a cannon ball) and Ackroyd. On July 7th, Philadelphia once again fell to the Confederates.

The most unfortunate Harrington

Meanwhile in Maine, the French had secured Easton and soon destroyed the hastily recruited Union soldiers that blocked their march on Bangor in early July. The French forces (10th corps) numbered about 17,844 effectives with more always on the way.

The Lion of Judah strikes

from the Atlanta Democrat - December 16, 1864
-PRESIDENT RESIGNS UNDER CLOUD OF SCANDAL!!!-

President Alexander Stevens resigned at midnight last might over an increasing corruption and abuse of power scandal. State investigations say now that the corruption that they have been fighting at a local level all seems to lead back Richmond. “The allegations against me are false, but for the good of the nation I will resign and retire from national politics,” Stevens said in his resignation letter to Congress and the nation. While Steven may not have been involve, it cannot escape the notice of the people that corruption at all levels of government has increased since the Whigs first took over in 1862...

December 18, 1864 - The Office for Foreign Affairs... Actually a room in the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond

Jefferson Davis: Good Morning, Mister Benjamin. Why are you burning those papers there?

Judah Benjamin: Its a rather cold morning and these are just some old unimportant transcripts and inventories. Have you spoke to President Toombs yet about...

Davis: Yes, he said he would be “overjoyed” to have us as part of his new administration. You know what the only difference between Stevens and Toombs is?

Benjamin: One is a walking skelaton and the other has the perfect potbelly.

Davis: No... well yes but thats not what I meant. Toombs is dumber.

Benjamin: Bingo, and who will be his most indispensable advisors in everything.

Davis: You sound as if you planned this all along... hmm.

Benjamin: My friend, if I told you, I would have to kill you. *laughs*

New Year, More Blood

In January of 1865, the Confederacy was still successfully defeating against the ever growing Union armies. Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, along with New Jersey, were firmly under the control of General Lee. Southern West Virginia was occupied but in the process of being liberated by the Union. In the Western Theater, The Army of the Tennessee held Cairo and Rolla. From those positions, General Stuart hoped to finally liberate Missouri in coming spring. Texas was being swarmed by Union armies with no troop, other than irregular, at hand to the defense the Lone Star Republic. Fortunately, only Austin was occupied by that time. On the other hand, the Indian Territory was completely occupied by Union forces.

New Year, More Blood (part II)

March 6, 1865 - Camp of the Army of the Tennessee somewhere near St. Louis

General J.E.B. Stuart: So my scouts, gimme a full report.

Scout 1: Well sir, the enemy has erect field fortications all around the city and a couple of earthen redoubts. The city its self had no such defenses, so we could tell these were freshly made.

Scout 2: They gots about 2 full divisions, one foot and the other is cavalry. Those units are about as fresh as the morning dew. We can surely put them Billy Yanks to flight.

Gen. Stuart: Well hold on there now, boy. That will depend on who their commander is.

Scout 1: A lady told me that the name of the commander is Grant, sir.

Gen. Stuart: Ah yes, the drunk from the Mexican war days. Its good to see he finally has gotten an independent command. He deserves it. Gentlemen, let us and the Army go and pay Gen. Grant a visit. Oh, by the way, what kind of "lady" did you obtain this information from.

Scout 1: I'll have you know now sir that Miss Pearl is one of the most respected ladies of the evening in all of Missoura.

September 5, 1865 - Camp of the Army of the "Shenandoah" near Camden, Arkansas

Gen. Stonewall Jackson: Remember men, always mystify, mislead and surprise the enemy; and when you strike and overcome him, never let up in the pursuit. Never fight against heavy odds if you can hurl your own forces on only part of your enemy and crush it. A small army may thus destroy a large one, and repeated victory will make you invicible. So it was with the Israelites of old and it is with us in this age.

Brigadier "Dick" Ewell: Thats all fine and good, but what are we doing all the way out here in the Transmississippi. Did you somewhat offend President Toombs when you went to Richmond.

Gen. Jackson. No! Sir, you must realize that we have for to long neglacted the importance of defending this region. It has been wholly striped of all the armaments of war and all the men possible. Thus the Texans need our army to drive off the invader. Look at the map here, they want to divide the country in two and to take control of the Mississippi. That is why we are here, sir. Now, the day after tomorrow we shall break camp at dawn and begin our march into Texas with the goal of taking Austin. Mr. Ashby tells me that there are two full divisions there and also two weak divsions, each only numbering about 2,300 men.

Brigadier Ewell: Hmm... we number 22,984 and we have two weak divisions...

Gen. Jackson: But we have two advantages on our side; artillery, surprise, and God, err... we have three... yes three advantages.

December 30, 1865 - The White House... yes, the one in Richmond

"Robert Augustus Toombs, 3rd President of the Confederate States of Amercia." It did have a certain ring to it, or at least President Toombs thought so. He had never thought he would be President, not now anyway, and look at everything that had happened in his first year. All in all, things were good with Missouri under Gen. Stuart's control, money following into the treasury, and the French pouring troops into their base in Maine. He had to look at the letter that the Emperor sent him to make sure it was real.

... I have strengthened Baraguay's army to the number of 174,000 men, mostly infantry, veterens of Algeria and the Crimea. I also send the navy, headed by La Glorie under rear admiral Pointdexter to secure the control of the Eastern coast. It is our goal to bring this war to an end in the coming year...

It was Toombs' goal as well. He always kept the fate of America's first third president, Thomas Jefferson, in mind. Except for the Perchase of Louisiana, his terms in office had been a horrible joke. Toombs was determined not to suffer that fate. "I can relax now, especially since I have two of the smartest men in the country at my beck and call," the President thought happily as he drifted to sleep in the chair by the fireside.

January 2, 1866 - The Office of the Chancellor in Berlin

Cavour: There is one more tiny thing to be covered in this treaty of alliance between our nations, Signore Bismarck.

Bismarck: And what might this "tiny" thing be?

Cavour: Welll, you see, Italy and her allies...

Bismarck: Getting to the point, you want me to declare war on the United States.

Cavour: Indeed, for the sake of soliderity.

Bismarck: This will be fine, since no Prussian troops will be involved. We will happily join the "Holy" Father in giving the CSA moral support only.

Cavour: They might send people to ask why the most prestigeous nation in the world is not intervening derictly as France and Italy, at least with our navy, has.

Bismarck: Prussian troops don't like warm climates such as they have in the Americas. Nothing is worse than an overheated Prussian soldier.

Cavour: I suppose.

Really enjoying this - nice style

Thanks for the complement. I like to think of it as a combination between good writing and being lazy. :D

The Loathsome mask has fallen the man remains
Sceptreless, free, uncircumscribed, but man
Equal, unclassed, tribeless and nationless,
Exempt from awe, worship, degree, the king,
Over himself, just, gentle, wise.
Percy Shelley from his work Prometheus Unbound

Lucius Tiberius Coldwell, editor

While we, the Socialist Brotherhood of Charleston, have always supported the cause of independence set before the Southern nation these past five year, we must still fear that our revolution will not go far enough and that our new nation will be doomed to fail from the very beginning. Once we have freed our selves of the predetory Northern business men and the tyrannical Federal government, we must finally come to realise that there is an enemy with in. It is not the slave or the Negro race in general, it is those who wish to continue to be the master over that race. This group, we must remind the reader, only makes up 6% of our population, yet they wish to remain tyrants over their fellow men. The world will not allow this situation to stand and our allies will desert us if they do not see a change soon. Slavery is dead, whether or not we attain our independence. It is all a matter of whether we wish emancipation to be done on our own terms, thus forever endearing the Negro to the white in our new nation, or on the terms of the Federals and the radical Yankees who only wish more blood and destruction for the benefit of their industry. Let us be the liberator of the Negro and attain by that freedom from fear forever.

May 27, 1866 - The Senatorial Debate at The Little Rock Public Hall in Little Rock Arkansas

R. Williams, the Democrat incumbant: As to the issue of minority peoples in the Confederacy, I maintain that they are deserving as any of citizen to the rights of citizens as long as they conform to the laws and morals of the various states in which they may reside. We cannot expect to get away with treating minorities as second class citizens and still have the respect of the great powers of the world...

P. Henderson, the Whig challenger: Sir, we know what you mean by minorities. You mean to say Negroes and Jews! Let me say that I am not for killing these persons or destroying their livelihoods. What do defend is the fact that Southern society is built on the fact that men know their station and are happy within it. Whether they be slave, farmer, merchant, etc they have no objections as to how they are treated. For balance, we must limit immigration altogether and find new innovations in the field of slaveholding to improve efficent work and happiness. To those who wish to step beyond their station, there will be and must be serious consequences.

Members of the audience: Here, Here! Give it to that coward!!!

R. Williams: People, let us be men of reason...

P. Henderson: Consider this! The Democrats want emancipation for the Negro. By God, we started this revoltuion to be rid of such abolitionist tyranny and now we find it in own midst, in the mind of our "Senator"!

R. Williams: Reality demands that we at least consider this prospect...

P. Henderson: Reality demands that we preserve our way of life, our culture!! There must never be equality for those who are naturally subject!

Audience: Exactly!!! Thats telling that bastard! *cheers mixed with murmurs*

P. Henderson: The Senator apparently doesn't know what this great war has been about.

R. Williams: Sir, it is you who does not know.

1866-04-26 : May 27, 1866 : We went with They are Cultural Aliens! in Minority Issues Hotly Debated in Arkansas.
