GREAT AAR!!!!!!!

You seem to be doing really good at the moment, keep it up, as far as your empire goes, you need to gobble up the entire HRE. Your not winning elections anyway, so to hell with it. I suggest making an alliance with Russia, to avoid the wrath of P-L.

In one of my early campaigns I started with Austria. Had great success until the rebellions started. These were followed with DOWs against me which then led to more war weariness and more rebellions. A never ending cycle that caused me to lose.:(
Beware you are at a crossroads and it can go either way.;)

Actually I'm planning to try and vassalise Venice, and I'll cosy up with France (hopefully forming an alliance with them), so when France declares war on Spain (which it will), we can take back Baden. Poland-Lithuania have been quiet lately, so I'm not expecting much from them as such - they've had losses against Sweden, and still haven't disposed of the Teutonic Order, and lost original provinces to Russia. They also still haven't taken Western Pommerania from Hanseatic League either. The only nation of real concern is the Turks, who seem to be constantly declaring war - it seems inevitable that we'd be dragged into some Islam conficts.

The great war cycle...

13 years of non-stop war? Nice... :)

Really I must say you're doing a swell job on even keeping your country intact... let alone the expansion you're achieving! Well done! You are also zooming through the years - at this clip you
'll run into the big Turk soon, won't you?

Question: do you find the AI a tough opponent, yes or no?

If the leader of the alliance is one of the greater nations, such as France and Spain, war is quite hard - Spain is difficult to get to, while French are great fighters. However, if the leader of the alliance is a small nation, merely taking some provinces from them makes the nation doubt its ability, and they try to settle for a peace, which in most cases is in my favour. So there you have it - France & Spain make hard AI. The other guys not so much, though I have only fought my neighbours.

I know exactly what you're going through, I'm playing a GC game as Austria and am going through the exact same sort of "never ending war cycle" with Spain, France, P-L, Turkey, Brandenburg, Hessen, and Cologne. Luckily for me, I diplo-annexed Venice early on, and so got a port. This allowed me to get some colonial holdings in North America, which was great for me strategically, b/c whenever the Spanish DOW'ed me I just marched some troops down to Mexico. If I can recommend a strategy, it's to take out all those 1 or 2 province German states early and annex them. That usually gets some of their allies off your back and gives you the best chance for ending all of your wars at some point. Also, when fighting countries like Brandenburg, who have more than 2 provinces, go right for the capital, and no matter how many provinces they've taken, you'll get them out of the war. It also helps to have a loyal German ally or two (I have Baden and Lorraine). Finally, revolts in Hungary are last priority- they can't resurrect Hungary unless they get a LOT of provinces, and you can always let the Poles and Turks fight them!

That's just my two cents, although I'm not that experienced a player myself.

Getting a port

I agree that getting a port is key. My fisrt time through (normal difficulty and AI, sorry) I am 110 years into the campaign and still do not have a port. Turkey was making significant inroads into Europe and I decided it was time to stop that. To achieve my goal I developed an alliance with the Papal States, Bavaria, and Persia (I hit the event jackpot when Hungary was voluntarily annexed when their king died without an heir). It took some diplomatic maneuvering to get Persia on board, but this proved to be well worth the effort, as Turkey was unable to sustain a two front war, and was thoroughly trounced on all fronts. The war dragged on for almost a decade. The jewel I received was Bulgaria (60k population), but they wouldn't let a port province go. It was a six star victory so I could have requested just a port province, but it would have been isolated. I have cultivated great relations with Venice, and as soon as they are out of their current alliance I hope to bring them into the fold. Thanks for the AAR Conqueristo!

Your humble servant in Austria

I have problems seeing the screenshots. Are others having this problem, or is it my browser (Netscape 4.75) ?

I hope you can pass rapidly this moments of constant war and upraisings. I believe that your problem is not having a couple of decades of peace (not because you don't want, but because they don't let you).

First I should say, restructure of your army and the creation of a navy. Then blitzkrieg everywhere you can, in fact take out Venice swiftly and maybe also have your little vengance with Brandenburg.

But offcourse I'm not the one whos playing, and I haven't got that much of an experience. other thing try to diplo-annex Sicily maybe that would help to get a grip in de Med and of course in Italy.

Great AAR, keep it up!!!!;)
