You got me...
According to wikipedia, Hitler allows the Draka to take over Italy. However, I believe that the developer of this mod changed it so it would be somewhat more realilistic, being constrained to the author's disbelief in reality.

Why are the Japanese fighting the Netherlands when the Draka is on their doorstep?

Resources?

I just read the Wikipedia entry on the Draka. They are indeed terrifying, like some kind of sociopathic Spartans intent on enslaving the rest of the human race for power and sport. I won't spoil everything, but if Soonerborn fails, then the Draka will kill about 200 million during their invasion of Eurasia and they will go on to enslave the entire human race, depopulate it, unleash horrid biological weapons and untold psychological and physical pain on their slaves, and they will eventually destroy all non-Draka humans and genetically modify their "serfs" into a different species incapable of rebellion while they hunt feral humans whom they have bombed into the stone age for sport. If Soonerborn fails, the only bastion of freedom for humanity eventually becomes other planets as Earth falls under the dark cloud of the Dominion.

Time to unite the Europe under ein Reich, ein Führer und ein Volk.
Just drive with your tanks into Paris.
I mean the city.
I would just drive into Paris, but I hate to break the set; methinks I should just get all of France.

So, are you allied with Japan?
Yes, I allied with them in the update before last. I wouldn't normally, but that's how the book went and I'm going to try to do at least some of the thing the same.

bit of a funny early war. im waiting for the draka to start 'dominating' things
In the books, besides a sideline war in Italy they didn't get into WWII until '42. We'll see how things go here.

Why not strike them, when they're not prepared?
Out of character, and really I don't have that capacity right now. It would be like Germany in the regular game trying to fight a colonial war in Africa/Middle East, but with the colonial forces being always well supplied and much more numerous--and I just can't do that.

At least S.M. Stirling is not directing this AAR, otherwise I'd just recommend everyone in Europe and Asia to just shoot themselves in the head since the Draka are 'perfect' in every way for conquest.
They won't be perfect for me. Germany will never surrender!

The Italian invasion does not happen in this mod, from what I can tell.

Why are the Japanese fighting the Netherlands when the Draka is on their doorstep?
The Draka aren't hostile, and fighting them in a long, drawn-out war would not help the Japanese. It's like Japan and the USSR in the late '30s, early '40s--why didn't they just fight? Because it would not help either side strategically, so they just had border skirmishes (and the Japanese and the Draka do in this timeline, too).

I just read the Wikipedia entry on the Draka. They are indeed terrifying, like some kind of sociopathic Spartans intent on enslaving the rest of the human race for power and sport.
If the Soviets fall, then Germany is Europe's first and last line of defense, but I don't intend on losing.

Don't know about dark...if you're on their side
You mean on the first map? That's the Domination of the Draka, and we are most certainly not on the same side.

The Continent
German gains in Europe will likely mean that they will soon futilely attack Britain--which would result in the destruction of the German invasion force--or the invasion of the Soviet Union, in which case the Germans will be overextended and, thus, easier to conquer.
Draka Internal Memo, 1940

The following is an excerpt from The Greater War: A Brief History of the Eurasian War:

. . . began, and by June 18, the invasion of France was well underway (see Fig. 1). German forces had pushed north along the English Channel and south along the western border of the Maginot Line, and were on the outskirts of Paris.

Ten days later Paris was in German hands and a group of French generals sued for a peace very much in German favor (see Fig. 2), with a small puppet state being set up in the south and direct German control in the north. Hitler balked at the suggestion, and refused anything less than total victory.

Fig. 2

By July 5, almost all of the western half of France was under German control (see Fig. 3). The French government fled to Bordeaux, because, the joke in the OKW went, from the coast they could more easily run away. French forces were incredibly demoralized.

At the same time, politics were changing in one of Germany's neighbors to the north. The Swedish National Socialist Worker's Party, a fascist party modeled on the German Nazi party, staged a coup against the Swedish government. This was done with much help from Germany, in the form of arms and training, and with German help came a very pro-German government. This new government also took the German lead at being expansionist, and claimed all of Scandinavia for Sweden (see Fig. 4).

After another month, the French were reduced to just a few pockets in the north and south (see Fig. 5). Victory was imminent.

On August 14, 1940, the last French division in Metropolitan France surrendered (see Fig. 6). The Free French forces continued their fight against the Axis, but never again in Europe. The French government relocated to Corsica in the Mediterranean, which did not fall for almost half a year.

You should have taken it...2% partisans are great...

I'm with ColossusCrusher and Delex on this one. You don't gain much by keeping the Vichy provinces except more partisans (though you certainly seem to have enough troops to garrison everything), and your new Sweden seems like a cheap way of getting Scandinavia without all the extra dissent... except Scandinavia doesn't have cores on the White Sea.

Finland being a part of Scandinavia has. :)
We Want Karelia Back!!! ;)

But... no Vichy... sounds harder.

I think a strong (Axis?) Sweden is a great idea. This game is gonig to be near-impossible as is, so a strong, technologically competent neighbor to the north is certainly a reasonable and welcome boon.

Ohh dear, this really is the Lesser of Two evils. I am just hoping you won't let the Draka annex Italy without a fight.

And it is good to see you back in action soonerborn.

So there's no Vichy regime in this AAR?

No, I decided for no Vichy here. I wanted southern France to base my bombers, so as to attack the French army and navy in Corsica, and I don't really mind holding France down. It's not that hard. In a couple of years I might release a puppet France; I reserve that right. Also, about having a lot of troops: in less than a year I'm probably going to be in a war with country with basically bottomless manpower.

Cheater!!! No way Sweden would get any claims lol.

The general idea was that with the influx of support from Germany, the SNSP would become more radicalized and imperialistic and, eventually, pan-Scandinavian. I did this because in the story Sweden was a German ally; I assumed (incorrectly?) that this meant that Sweden got territory. After all, the other willing allies got territory: Hungary got a lot of Hungarian territory from Czechoslovakia and Romania, and Italy got territory all around the Mediterranean. I thought that Fennoscandia would be acceptable, though depending on Swedish forces' actions in attacking and later defending it, they might lose those cores.

What does the Dom. of Draka say about all this expansiveness?
They're getting ready for some expansion of their own. . . I just hope not against me.

You're going to have to take on the Soviet Union first, but I see a nice little land strip between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf that would cut off all Draka lands in Asia from a land connection.
That's for later. ;)

Good AAR and idea so far although the novel has certainly taken history through the butcher's knife. Eugh, I hated the history, made no sense at all. So I just hope Nazi Germany (and evil but not as evil compared to the Draka) can atleast put some stability back into the world. I hate the idea of two united nations duking it out. Independent (Puppets) for the win!

i thought sweden remained neutral? though they did support hitler as i understand it, they didnt join the axis.
