Lots of Soviet generals. And thanks, Rangermike.

I think I'm going to wait before issuing a 1.4 release for Japan. One added picture, to me, isn't really worth an entirely new version number. Instead, I'm going to get to work on ... Italy, I think. Admittedly, some of those 0 skill generals deserve it (Soddu spent more time composing film scores in his office than he did leading his troops), but I think some of the low skill ones might not deserve it. After all, they were leading Italian troops/fleets and might succumb to Japan Syndrome.

So, if anybody finds Italian leaders left out of the main game, please let me know.

Lots of Soviet generals.
I just finished reading A Writer at War, about Vasily Grossman, this morning :p

as for Italy:

di Cossata - should be removed, as he never attained the appropriate rank (also for RSI)
Messe - add defensive doctrine, for his skillful defense of the Mareth Line and later the Enfidaville Line. the first gave Monty a quite bloody nose, though he won in the end, and Monty never managed to breach the second.
Borghese - should be a naval leader, not an army leader. subtract commando, add seawolf.

hey Phoenix Dace ,
nice project what you started !! I think ,that is true with the leader skills and i like it that somebody start now to improve them . i think the same thing is with the tech-teams. teams from major countries have like 7-9 skilled teams and minos always 2-5 . i think it does not represent the real skill of the team , because minor have 1-3 research slots , but did great research for the country . they did not have big production and so they got low skills.
so great job doing here , and i ask you if i can use your work for HIP ?! that would be nice ! thanks.

I could provide ~75 (I think) new tech teams too, if there's a call for them
nods.gif

there is a call for them :D
i already did some work on german,hungarian,english,..-tech teams in HIP.

Sure, go ahead and use them for HIP. In fact, here's an open announcement: All work I/we do here is open for all mods to use. In other words, take it, put it in your mod, I'm more than happy to have my work available to more people. My only restriction is that you make sure to credit the CL/MIP for the changed leader files, and the names of the contributors (Right now, just me and Myth). In other words, it's great if you want to use our work, just don't claim it as your own. Also, if you are adopting these files for use in a mod, please post here and let us know.

As for tech teams - they come later. Maybe if there's enough demand for them, I'll do some before I finish up with leaders, but right now leaders are the focus. And speaking of that, I'm off to do some research on Italian admirals.

I had no idealistic hopes of turning the Italians into super-admirals. Even so, this is still a bit sad.

If anyone can find the following things, they would help greatly:

1) Whether Paradox's Brivonesi is Bruno or Bruto
2) Detailed dates for promotions for any of the twelve admirals I have added. After Casardi, I just took to placing their promotion date as the year of their first command.
3) Changes for Italian generals and air marshals, who are next on the list

Thanks!

good stuff, however...

di Cossata - name changed to di Cossato
he still shouldn't be there as he only gained a commander's rank (or captain, one of those but both below rear admiral) before his death. also, as I mentioned, Borghese shouldn't be a commando leader, or even an army leader. he should be (imho) a 3/6 seawolf and maybe blockade runner. he commanded the team that snuck into Alexandria harbor and put torpedoes onto Cunningham's two battleships, incapitating them for a large portion of the war in the Mediterranean.

Hmm ... All right, I'll remove di Cossato. I can't find anything about him, so I'll just trust you on this. And Borghese I'm going to change when I do generals, which will probably be part today and part tomorrow. Expect an Italy 1.1 release by Wednesday.

here ya go

all right, cool

it doesn't seem to provide that much detail about everything, but some things it does...such as Bergamini. his dates are all wrong in-game, they should be 38-39-41-43 and he ends in '44 (aboard the Roma as it sank). from what is says, imho should remove old guard, he doesn't seem like someone who kept kept holding on to certain ideas in the face of evidence to the contrary.

I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about that as I don't run the site that I'm using to upload the files. Both the files work fine for me. Best I can offer is to try again later and refresh the page if that comes up again.

Also, I'll probably get some Italian generals done tonight. Sorry about the delayed release of Italy 1.1, but I've been too busy playing the game to mod it.

more SOV leaders :p

Vodapianov (air) - 1/4 carpet bomber from '43
Pokryshkin (air) - 2/5 superior tactician from '53
Vitruk (air) - 2/5 tank buster from '42 to '46
Kozhedub (air) - 1/4 superior tactician from '51

Pokrishkin, Kozhedub and Vodopyanov are very
famous Soviet aces of the Great Patriotic War but
were they really military leaders ?

As for McArthur, didn't he perform well in Korea in 1950th ?
You maybe judge him too severely ?

Anyway, folks, it's a darn good job you've been doing.
Really impressed indeed.

Thinking of adopting your suggestions for
Der Kampf um Lebensraum scenario

Thanks, Aggressor. That reminds me, not only to get working on the Italians but also to say something: I said earlier that it was fine to use these lists in whatever mod you want provided you give us credit.

One more thing ... it would be nice if you would post here and let us know, as well. Even though I'm fine with whoever using these for whatever, I'd still like to know where my/our work is being used.

As for MacArthur, I don't believe I'm judging him too severely. I'm going by WWII performance, mainly because it's what the game is based around and I'm no expert on Korea. But during WWII, MacArthur was probably the most inept general of the Pacific theatre, on either side. His defence of the Philippines was one of the finest displays of stupidity in the whole war (he spent most of his time holed up in a tunnel under Corregidor, leaving Wainwright to handle everything, worrying about getting various diseases and removing himself as much as possible from the actual combat), followed by his singleminded drive to get back there culminating in some absolutely horrible plans that mainly focused on him trying to get to the Philippines no matter what the cost because he felt bad about his absolutely terrible performance when defending there. It's a good thing King and Nimitz vetoed his plans for 'drive from Australia to the Philippines without taking anything along the way' for the 'Island Hopping Pacific Superhighway' strategy instead.

As for Korea, I do recall that most of the strategic elements of the war involving MacArthur involved him repeatedly asking Truman if he could use nukes against the Chinese, and Eisenhower repeatedly vetoing this because, being smart, he knew it would bring the USSR into the war with their nukes. Not the brightest bulb, MacArthur.

Also, Myth, you're a machine when it comes to Soviet generals. When I get around to working on those, I expect the changelist to be huge.

Off to work on some Italians now.

by those dates, yes. Vodapianov was commanding a bomber division by '43, pokryshkin by '53 and kuzhedub by '51. however, none of them pass the rank of major general within the timespan of the game

As for McArthur, didn't he perform well in Korea in 1950th ?

as it is, he is still a good leader, at 3/6 offensive doctrine, old guard. he is still better than average, which accounts for his performance in Korea.

Yeah, I recall that tunnel, a very picturesque one, in the film
MacArthur made in the United States back in 1970s
