The Emergency ,Ireland acts 1939 (It's back guys)

The Emergency was an official euphemism used by the Irish Government during the 1940s to refer to its position during World War II. The state was officially neutral during World War II, but declared an official state of emergency on 2 September 1939, and enacted the Emergency Powers Act the following day. This gave sweeping new powers to the government for the duration of the Emergency, such as internment, censorship of the press and correspondence, and the government control of the economy. As we know Ireland stayed out of World War 2 but what follows is an Alternative history, the following is fiction.

The War till Now

War has broken out in Europe since early 1939 the world is in Flames the Axis powers including the newly elected Greek Fascists flock to Germany’s Aid, Italy Remains Neutral for now. The Germans Invasion of Poland is fast and rapid and takes, a few weeks. France mobilises quickly and makes gains along the Germans Western Border, as fresh German troops plug the gap the attack bogs down.

24th September 1939

Ireland Decides

At a meeting of the Irish Parliament, it was decided that Ireland can’t stand by and watch Europe fall as it is much else their fate is tied to Great Britain. UK’s foreign minister flew to Ireland to gain support for an Anglo Irish Alliance, it was agreed and on the 24th September Ireland declared war against Germany, with the proviso the Ulster Provinces would return to Irish control after the war, the settlement was agreed, and the Treaty signed Ireland mobilised.

Ireland Moves to plan its first Operation

Operation Shamrock

operationshamrock.jpg

Irish forces were urgently needed on the continent as German forces began to invade Holland and Belgium to try to out flank the bogged down French attack, with the remnants of the BEF and the Belgium and Dutch armies would form a defence able stop line to try to check the German advance, Operation Shamrock was conceived as a joint plan, but it would leave large parts of Holland Under German control but it would eventually slow the Germans down. A price for liberty, as the Irish army isn’t well Equipped to go on any real offensive operations, it is a Holding operation.

Final Plan

Red Lines represent Land given up to the Germans (the Dutch army is basically dead in game)
Green = Irish Forces
Yellow = Belgium and GB Forces

As it is on the Battle map

opeartionshamrockonthem.png

The Army Rushed to France is under overall command of LT.Gen Killane based just to the west of the Belgium Capital the units are mainly Reservists and have poor Equipment but the allies need the men to plug the hole in the Low countries.

A German Attacked was Lunched on at the start of November with the Goal of splitting the Irish and Belgium armies along what has been called the Thin Green line. The combined Irish and Belgium Troops managed to hold german Panzer forces with minimal casualties at Antwerp

it will be as it hard for me as Ireland to hold the Germans in Belgium as the Irish army is really weak at the start but it will build up over time i hope. It nice to play as a small faction so i though share my exprience with you guys

New Year brings new misfortunes

Luxemburg Surrenders on new years day

charb26ez.jpg

News Reaches the Irish Government, that the Germans have made a massive break through in southern France, and have made massive gains, it was an achievement in itself to close the French bulge but to mange to break through a depleted Maginot line due to diverting French reinforcements was a stroke of genius on part of the German High command.

(front line January 3th)

Operation Shamrock fails as German troops push through at Rossendal, and the last remains of the Dutch army surrenders the next day, but some fight on. The Irish Army decides to retreat to the Franco Belgium Border, centring around fresh French army units near Kortijik , with Irish HQ moved to Paris and the British army, tactically withdrawn from France the rest of 1940 looks bleak for the Allies and the sentiment is in the Irish Parliament.

(battle of kortijik January 6th 1940)

The head of Irish forces in France LT.Gen Killane contemplates the grim reality that the Irish army may need to be evacuated from as the casualties sustained in some minor battles are too great and that ,if the French army collapses and plans are drawn up.

January 8th the First ever Irish made Gladiator interceptors begin production they may seem out of date but will provide the home land with some form of air defence, for the time being expected completion date for four Squadrons on the 17th August 1940. And with assurances with the Armaments minister Ireland will have it first ever light armoured Division.

Gloster_Gladiator.jpg

At a recent meeting with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill ,Eamon de Valera, stated that the last few weeks have been a test for the Irish army, and that we have proven ourselves against a much stronger force with a lack of equipment, and a deal was broken that if Ireland needed and equipment they just needed to ask.

9th January Italy Declares War Against the allies

The situation for me is bad, japan is in the axis and we are at war, I won't ruin what happens I let u find out in my post tmoz, also I keep u updated with uk forces as well as the aar revloves around the Anglo Irish. It is a suprise trust me but bigger threat is N Africa as Brits has small amount of troops their I may help out their, my main goal is Greece as Greek troops are roughly same levels and it be an intresting unexploerd theatre

What are you planning regarding your forces? I'd imagine a small army of about 2 corps, which would free up leadership for more research, something the Irish troops will surely need.

yes that is true their at the mo the army is very small so i can research more and get them at least half decent, but this will take time obviously in HoI2 it was easier to play as ireland but this is more harder and fun update later today

Some Hope and The Pull Back (very short update for you)

The allies have had some successes church bells were rung across Ireland for the first time since the declaration of war.

With the Belgium under control of German forces, Lt Gen Killen decides that it is time to save face and evacuate the Irish Forces from France and pull back to Ireland, god save Ireland

this picture appeared in Irish newspapers after the decision to evacuate was taken

2nd February war engulfs the world

theworldon2ndfeb1940.jpg

as you can see the situation is bad as Italy has made massive gains in Africa and Southern France French Colonial forces and UK Colonial Forces are in full retreat.

RommelBardia.jpg

The war is going to worse after a brief glimmer of hope

After the Evacuation it was found that only 1/4 of the irish army made it out of france one corps the 7th Infantry Brigade as the evacuation area was quickly over run, the army needs to regroup and re orgonise.

March 14th German Army Reaches Paris French goverment surrenders Ireland and the United Kingdom and her Empire stand alone, plans are drawn to send irish troops to N Africa

Alone and The Desert four leaf Clovers

More bad news guys Paris fell on March 14th and France surrender a few days after “god dam frogs” Valera was reported to have said to his chief of staff, the news sent shock waves through the streets of Dublin , as Irish Troops began landing in British Mandated Palestine on the 3rd of April and began a short counter attack against the Italian front line it became know as the battle of Battle of Hammam, after a fierce night bombardment, the evening before the assault began on the 6th April, with the aid of British air superiority, the Irish battled till the 12th April when the Italian resistance finally collapsed.

battleofelhammam.jpg

it was a short victory and a boast for the armies morale until a new brigade can reach Africa with Armoured brigade can a battle plan for roll back until UK troops can take over, and Irelands plan of moving on Greece can be undertaken.

war-of-independence---irish-civil-war.jpg

Luckily no one was hurt at the time it is reason to believe that the IRA dose not believe in helping the UK in the war against Germany, but the country remains united in defiance of the terrorist actions.

The N African Front has stabilised as UK troops arrive now it is time for the Irish forces to begin Operation Guinness , the invasion of Greece.

Operation Guinness

opeartionirishdrink.jpg

The plan was devised by Lt Gen Killane and is a plan to knock one of the axis out of the war as quickly as possible and provide a new staging ground just in case Africa Falls. This is the plan. Due to Ireland’s small army the campaign will fall into tow different stages.

Stage 1 (Green Arrows)

This stage will be gaining control of Crete from Greece and then gain a provisional airbase from were the new Irish Air Force can provide effective air cover for when the main Assault begins. Resistance, is expected to be low as intelligence suggests that Greek troop levels will be low.

Stage 2 (Dark Green and Green lines Initial beachhead)

Once Crete is taken Irish troops will land in Greece’s southern area and advance inland and then hopefully move and take Athens, once Greece is taken Albania hopefully will become liberated from Italian rule, and the country will be annexed until the end of the war so resources can be used from the country to fund the Irish war effort.

13th July 1940 the Operation begins the landing on Crete takes place with no opposition from Geek troops,

crete.jpg

The main invasion Begins and pushes inland after many hard battles the southern part of Greece is Secure and the Irish Prepare for the assault on Athens. 9th of November due to supply Problems all Irish troops are holding Positions in Greece till supply lines can be restored. The Greek army was small and disorganised combined Air and Irish army Assaults have ground them down and only an Italian Expeditionary force left.

It can be fun to play as a minor nation. Except HoI2 got me all gassed up for having these awesome minor empires. Except in HoI3, minors are half as powerful. As Sweden I figured I could hold Malmo with a small force and use the rest of my force in North Africa to help the UK. NOPE. It takes every man in Sweden to hold the Germans at bay in Copenhagen. At least you have a sea separating you. Best of luck.

If you wondering what happend in greece you will find out tomorrow as i have been busy doing work god dam it but Paris has fallen what fun

The Allies First Major Victory and help arrives in Small Packages

Good news everyone Greece fell but it tool till the 18th of March 1941 to do it the Greek Government capitulated to an Allied Commission, lead by British General Douglas Alexander but the day really belongs to the Irish Army who fought bravely for the Allied cause. Greece was allowed to be annexed and be put under Irish administration, until the wars ending.

bougan-surrender.jpg

greececonquerd.jpg

Before the fall of Greece news arrived that Germany had declared war against Russia and pushed deep into Soviet territory, and the Red Army in Fall retreat, and with Japan being beaten back in Asia by Nationalist, and Commonwealth forces, with American support (America not in the allies at this time) Hitler declares war against the United states. A bill was then passed in the Irish parliament stating that

“Any Irish decedents that are in America are entitled to join the Irish Armed forces and gain dual citizen ship of the United States of America and the Republic of Ireland”,

This bill was agreed and passed in US congress with a massive majority.

News Paper photo from Switzerland
world-war-2-1943-wp-pd.jpg

Germany declares war against Switzerland the whole world is in shock why attack little Switzerland (stated Churchill) the Swiss were immediately invited to the Allies as soon as possible but they wont last long due to the over whelming might of the Nazi war machine.

Considering This the Irish Government agreed that an Italy first Scenario for them was high on the list so that the UK and US forces could concentrate on the German war machine, this was considered and agreed on at the first allied conference in Athens. Ireland was represented by LT, Gen Killane as the Irish PM was involved in an IRA attack in Dublin.

1945_Yalta.jpg

Next part will be invasion of Africa in the northern area behind Irish Troops but this wont happen till 1942 as I don’t have the man power at the mo so next update will take some time guys.

Aren't Yougoslavia and Bulgaria aligned with the Axis? Who are the members of the Axis in your game?
