They dealt with succession crises, but also fought wars, made peace (occasionally), and lost territory without a lengthy colonization process. The Timurids and Mamlukes were the main ones, but also the Black and White Sheep, the Jalayirids, and some of the Anatolian beyliks fit into this category.
How are they being handled? Will Egypt and Persia have to be civilized like Mongolia and Tartary?
