Sicily accepts. We are now back at peace. Compared to the offer Sicily proposed we lose out on 21 ducats, a handful of prestige but gain around 5 provinces.

Looking at the victory situation, it seems we have a new competitor. Though France is land dominant, as it has not managed to seize any strategic naval provinces, it has fallen behind to Russia. This makes things interesting as we both are now at 74% required of our achievable goals. If only we'd been able to cede Palermo as well.

As the Sicilian forces retreat through Cosenza we take a look at our dominance score. With the capture of: Hannover and now the occupation of Naples and Palermo we have a 57% land domiance rating. Well on the way to eclipsing our arch enemies.

5 May
Our enemy reaches out to us and offers us territory in a peace deal, which stretches from Naples to Calabria. It is a decent offer but we have Sicily at our mercy. We should at least attempt to see what sort of warscore we can achieve by taking over the rest of the nation.

Wellesley's Force of 54,779 men meets the smaller 20,600 men of the the primary Sicilian army under the command of the Conde de Damas, on the hills around Palermo. Victory is pretty comprehensive despite suffering from being out of supply. The superior tactical options chosen for our army see us through with a succession of favourable battle events. The defeated Sicilian army retreats into the relative safety of the fort. As a result Sir Stapleton Cotton gained the Massed Tactic trait. ...

A new year begins. One full of promise. Yet one that threatens more. With peace now made between the two dominant powers Britain and France, the rest of the major powers, except Spain are at war with one or another.

If Britain is to cement her place as Naval Dominance leader she must rebuild her navy and protect the naval objectives she currently owns. If she is to rise and claim victory she must embark on the challenge of seizing an additional eight land dominance targets. This is far easy to say than do, as the threat of France continues to linger.... and what of the growning menance in the east? Russia is on her own war-path. Where it will take her and the rest of Europe only time will tell...


… though we should fear that at some point it will lead to a collision course with outselves and then a fight to death. ...

Portsmouth fleet manages another victory on the seas of the channel.
Result: GB victory.
Losses: France - 2x Ships of the line; GB – 1x Ships of the line.

The English Home Army is chased remorselessky by the superior numbers of the French armies led by Charles Morand. It is caught in the province of Gand and destroyed mercilessly to a man. It is rumoured that the great Sir John Moore even cried at the sight! To bad as the forty-five thousand troops of Lancaster Force arrive in Bruges. All to no avail. Without the original fifty-nine thousand souls of the home army, there is no point in sacrificing this force to another French onslaught. Time to retreat home. ...

Monthly Highlights:
1 July
GREAT NEWS! There will be peace. At least with Denmark. They accepted our terms and are no longer in France's coalition. We gain a satellite in the form of Hannover, created from the Province of Lauenburg. Shame – perhaps we should have waited for victory over France. Oh well. As well as the 350 ducats we gain 6.7 prestige.

Though most important of all, we can now forget about Denmark at least for a year. We we find out from the Truce Alert which appears at the top of the screen, under the Main Toolbar. Another alert also shows we have troops on foreign territory who we are not at war with. Time to get them to Bremen pronto. We also begin to retreat our fleets from Danish waters back home. Surely they should be okay to reach home!? ...

As we reach May the goals on horizons move closer. We begin preparations to invade the mainland. For sometime at the height of summer the campaign to engage France and attain our objectives will be put into action. The plan is simple, yet with some sophistication. Employing a strategy suited to the circumstances Great Britain finds herself in.
Our first action will be to bring in as many coalition members into the war as possible.

The use of decoys will be used to distract some elements of the French army. The army safely within Prussian borders will stride forth and seize Hannover. Hopefully drawing the French and Danish armies towards it. By the time they arrive, the Liberation army will be safely within the city walls. ...

Hello & welcome to this my first and likely only AAR for Paradox Development Studio's about to be released - March of the Eagles. So hopefully you will find it a good read. The game is published by Paradox Interactive and continues in the vein of Grand Strategy titles such as: Rome and Sengoku.

The written commentary is based on my current game as one of the major powers - Great Britain. The screenshots contained within are take directly from the game using Steam capture. Gameplay settings are set to default, that is:

• Scenario – Standard Grand Campaign 1805 – 1820.
• Difficulty – Normal.
• AI Aggression – Normal.

The purpose of this particular After Action Report is to provide a fair account of gameplay with coverage across as many important aspect of the game as possible. That together with some explanation of some of the important factors modeled in the game. My hope is that you will receive a fair representation of the gameplay that March of the Eagles provides, at least from the perspective of one of the Major Powers in the game. ...
