Hello everyone.
I played a fair amount of HoI 2 and am now increasing my hours played on HoI 3 + expansions at an alarming speed.
I tried to take a look on other Paradox titles, but the catalog is huge and I can't really pick a new title.

I prefer the military part of the game (no shit Sherlock, it's a WW2 game  ) but enjoy all aspects of it, from diplomacy to production.
And I'm one of those control freaks who control everything manually, so micromanagement isn't an issue.

Wich game would you suggest to an avid HoI 3 player?
Thanks in advance.

At the moment , I am studying engineering Electromechanics. But Im planning on changing next year to engineering informatics software development.
And I would be lying if I said that it is not to learn how to make games; I even hope that maybe in two years time I will be able to apply for a position at PDS.
It got me wondering ,would you guys accept a bachelor Engineering software development ,or do you want someone with a masters degree? Or is regular engineering school not enough to apply for a position at PDS and you really need to go to a specific gameschool?

EDIT: Small thought, is being able to talk four different languages actually a plus on a resumee for PDS ? Or is English all you search for in communication?

38 Studios, referenced in the post, was the video game company owned by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. The RI state government lost roughly $100m when they went belly-up.

My fellow paradox-game-players,

For a while now, I long for a full history game, more detailed than Civilization, and broader (longer time-period) than the paradox games. Although I love the paradox games, I am always near crying when a campaign has ended, because I want to continue my build up empire into the next era. So I decided to bring people together to get it done.

You can join the newly made forums at: http://thehistorygame.freeforums.org/index.php

I am looking for people who want to help with the programming, and for people who want to share ideas and have discussions about history in general and how to implement those in a game.

Hey everyone!

Interesting read about strategy gaming at Gamasutra, enjoy!

*The 4 biggest lessons from the year in strategy gaming: *
"2012 was a godsend for those suffering from the strategy game itch. Everyone from the strategy veteran to the genre neophyte had a breathtaking library of new releases that all showcased the very best that strategy has to offer. Most surprising was that this came at a time when some were wondering whether strategy, specifically turn-based strategy was on the verge of becoming a dead genre on the level of point and click adventures (which, I must point out, are also somewhat on the rise again)."

Hello,

I'm not sure that this thread belongs here or anywhere on the forums, but here it goes. I bought Rome Gold from GMG and they did not provide me with a key. Instead, they forced me to download their crappy Capsule app and auto-activated the game there without providing me the key necessary to register my game on this forum.

I sent a support ticket and this is their answer:

Hello, I just bought and installed Europa Universalis Rome Gold and I need my CD-key in order to fully access their support and mod forums. I cannot find this key anywhere. The only reason I bought this game in the first place was for that key. If you cannot immediately provide the said key I will require a full refund.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for your ticket. Unfortunately as this game uses Capsule you will not receive an activation key as the primary serial activates on installation and play.
Sorry for any confusion caused.

Because of this, I was required to buy the game AGAIN from steam in order to get a key and register it on the forums. This caused me more sadness than financial loss because GMG's proved to be cheap but dishonorable.
Therefore I will never buy anything from them again and I advise you to do the same.

Update: they finally sent me the key after 6 days and 2 tickets. The key is NOT VALID so be advised when you do business with them.

Just realised that not only Steam games could be registered.

I own a bunch of PDS games ever since the EU1 (and the Valhalla actually ;)

Somehow only now got the point of registering them. I wanna new awesome avatar.

So I got to "My Games", choose, say, vanilla EU3, enter the 20 digit code and... it says the code is invalid. I tired it with all of my games, of the relatively newer ones it's vanilla EU3, HTTT, DW, Cronicles, Rome Gold.

They are all Russian versions published by 1C/Snowball. None of them works. Have they just expired?

Is it possible to just PM my codes to some mod, so he checks it somehow and gives me the icons and new avatars?

Is there a EU1 and EU2 icons? :3

So after playing lots of various Civ parts (okay pretty much all of them) and various other turn based strategy games I finally thought I wanna get into the whole grand strategy thing. Now thanks to a some bundle sale and the huge discounts on the new paradox web shop I was able to get EU3, CK II and Vic 2 for a good price. I have all the major addons to all of them including Heart of Darkness for Vic 2. I do not have all the sprite packs (olny some for Vic 2). Now from what I understand other than the obvious differences from the time periods each game plays in Vic 2 seems to be for the most be focused on the trade and economy part, CK II on all the family business things like marrying, vasals and helping your family grow to power and EU3 seems to be not focusing on something special (so I might be wrong) and seems to be balanced on all the different parts. Now I am a total newbie to those kinda games but they always been quite appealing to me and thats why I finally came around picking some of them up. That said I think no matter the choice I will have to learn quite a bit on all of them (been watching some longplays and overviews already).

Now what I am looking for is basiclly civ just on a bigger scale and with more advanced diplomacy and trading options. I also like to see myself as warmonger but even in civ everytime I tried to be one I ended up putting way to much into research and trade and tried to be getting along well with everyone (or at least as long as they would be of any help for me ^^)! I never was able to get myself to sink so much money into my units when I could build a wonder or research something that would give me a much greater benefit. So yeah based on that information which of those 3 mentioned games would fit me most and why and if someone thinks different than please give me the reason why you think I would enjoy your choice more. I hope you guys can help me with this one. Oh and just so you know every single one of them does have something that did appeal to me thats why I bought those in the first place but since all of them are rather complex and there is noway to actually play each of them for an hour or such and make a good decission based on it I thought I going to ask here.

"Before my laptop went belly-up, one of my favourite developers was Paradox Development Studio. Best known for producing the most hardcore of hardcore strategy games, Paradox games, like Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron and my personal favourite, Sengoku, all share one thing in common - you can lose months of your life to each and everyone one of them. From intricate political systems to empire building that makes Civilization look like Angry Birds, this is a studio for genuine fans of strategy games.

The studio's lead, Johan Andersson, sat down with us to have a chat about the team's design philosophy, and where the studio is heading in the future. While it's a little disappointing that there is no intention there to build games for the consoles (surely the PlayStation 4 would be able to handle a Hearts of Iron game!) it's good to see that there are developers out there of a substantial size that are still committed to a purity of vision, rather than chasing after a mass-market that might not be there for their games."
