I was wondering how you are suppose to take land from republics. I look through there claimants and it is almost empty. Currently the only way it seems possible to get large chunks, but slow is to be a de jure leige or pray to for your chancellor to fabricate claim on a duchy. Am I missing some key way? I kinda want to take Africa back from Venice.

Driven by financial and religious zeal, and facilitated by the capture of coastal territories in the Levant and Egypt in the 630s-640s, Muslim raiders at all levels from great rulers to "entrepreneurs" began centuries of incessant piracy and coastal raiding that shut down the Christian maritime economy from the Levant and Egypt to Spain and led notably led to the decline and abandonment of open coastal towns in favored of defensible fortified towns inland - much as happened in NW Europe when Viking activity turned westward in the 9th century. With reduced material pickings, the capture of slaves became the prime engine of centuries of raiding that persisted even into the 19th century (those famous Barbary Pirates whose time-honored tolls for safe passage the brash young American nation refused to pay).

Paradox, for your next game, you should take a risk at something new, aquire the rights to a game of thrones game, hire on all the GoT mod team to help with this game, it will be a huge seller, the mod is amazing but as the team recently pointed out there is alot of hardcoded limitations, just think of what they've already achieved, the mod feels like a new game, now imagine what they could achieve with a full game!, I know atleast three people who own CK2 soley for GoT mod, I try and get them to play CK2, or CK2+ but they just find it too "boring" they can't relate to the history aspect, so you'd be able to reach out to a even wider audience, anyway this is probably just a dream, but a dream worth mentioning :D

I'm not thinking the full on Ruler Designer - traits and all that. I'd just like to have a barber shop style system where you can change your appearance if you're not really a fan of that haircut, beard or clothing.

When a female lover is married, it seems the childs tend to be acknowledged as legitim children of her husband. So, we all know how good it is to be the king/despot/emperor/..., but is there any way to let the whole world now about how good it is? I mean, I too, would like to be able to claim the lands of his mother (by legitimating him...).

I started as Count Morvan of Leon.

It's mid 1140ish. I'm still Count of 4 of the Brittany provinces. Rennes has been taken by the Normans, and Nantes is held by the current Duchess of Brittany. The problem is, while I am vastly more poweful, able to field an army of around 300, and with gold reserves of about 500, I can't seem to actually claim Brittany or become a Duke. It won't let me usurp, as I don't have a strong claim, and I can't fabricate a claim on Nantes. I seem to be at an impasse.

How can I create a new Duchy, or take Brittany by force? I can't seem to get beyond a count, even though I control more than 50% of de jure Brittany.

Any ideas?

Thanks, and sorry if I haven't explained this very well, I can post screenshots etc. if needed.

Hello everyone, just started playing CKII and I'm pretty sure I'll be losing sleep over this one in the near future. Here's my situation: after a close succession war, I have reunited the Duchies of Ulster and Meath under my rule. I've saved up enough money and provinces to form the Kingdom of Ireland, but I'm still working on gathering the piety through indulgences. Should I keep sinking my funds into indulgences in order to become king ASAP, or would it be better in invest in some economic structures in my demesne and try to build up the economy first? I'm learning towards forming the Kingdom, unifying Ireland, and then focusing on construction, but thought I'd get some advice from more experienced players. Thanks!

One thing that really bugs me about this game is that there is almost never a good reason to support your liege in a rebellion. It depletes your manpower as well as your income and usually there is no reward for helping. In my experience, the AI usually doesn't revoke/banish although to be honest I don't typically play as a vassal so I could be incorrect here. Either way, I think it would be nice if your liege would revoke titles and intelligently hand them out to his vassals based on how much war contributions they have similar to the way the Pope hands out crusade targets only instead of just one person getting it all the titles would be a little more evenly distributed.

The deeper we delve into the feudal past, the more I feel the absence of _real_ retinues. That is, not some quasi standing armies available to larger lords, but a personal troop of companions following a character, quite possible, from the Slavic-style druzhina to an Emperor's personal guards. It might play well into the new Adventurer concept. For example, many Early Russian nobles (an all too numerous class back then) were more or less Adventurers at the head of small retinues constantly engaged in day-to-day activities like fighting border skirmishes or extorting tribute from lesser neighboring pagans tribes. Or even applying for the top job in Republics like Pskov or Novgorod.

There is a possibility of greater personal relations roleplay with members of the this retinue proper, with old comrades in arms, newcomers rising into favour because of their actions on a battlefield (like coming to the liege's rescue when closely beset, etc), assigning new people to it (new honorary titles), and generally having at your disposal a small pool of characters with a personal touch of history instead of the trait-wielding, but still rather more generic vassals.
