Ten! Ten developer diaries for Europa Universalis IV: Art of War. And this is the final one before the release of what is shaping up to be one of the largest - if not the largest - expansions we’ve ever done for one of our games.

Mostly some tidying up the details on smaller mechanics today, but we will end again with a look at how the map is changing.

    Automated Fleet Transport
A new feature in the Art of War expansion is the ability to automatically transport your armies to overseas locations. As it now stands, transporting can be a lot of micromanagement as you would have to find a fleet, send it to the right port, load your army, move the fleet to its new destination and unload… and do it all again if you didn’t have enough transports for everyone.

Hi dudes and dudettes! We are back with yet another development diary and this time we'll take a closer look at the various natural resources that are at your disposal when you are building the city of your dreams.

You can check the previous dev diaries here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...-diary-archive!

    Natural resource types
When we started to design how the maps would look like in Cities: Skylines and what they should have in them we came to the conclusion that rather than being just a stage where the player builds their city, the maps should have a more meaningful role. With the highways and railways crisscrossing the map and the water areas providing challenges for expanding cities, the natural resources work as a reward for expanding strategically throughout the map.

Time really flies by - have we really written 26 dev diaries? We have a lot more planned for our upcoming Tactical RPG Runemaster, and this week we'll talk about the most beautiful of worlds - Alfheim.

    The Races of Alfheim
Alfheim is also known as Ljosalfheim. The first part, "ljosalf", means "Lightelf" and the second part, "heim", means home. So essentially the name means "home of the Lightelfs" and so this is the world they call home. Though the Lightelfs were the first to claim Alfheim as their home, the Trolls wander through the world in search of their lost goddess Fjorgyn and have a few permanent settlements here and there.

Only a couple of weeks until Europa Universalis IV: Art of War comes out, so we’re down to the last little bits of information to pass out in Developer Diaries.

    The Revolution Target

The French Revolution and, to a lesser extent revolutions in other nations, have always been a feature of Europa Universalis IV, but Art of War features considerable improvements in these mechanics. Now, in the second half of the 18th century any country in Europe, not only France, that ends up in a rough condition may experience a revolution and become the revolutionary target. Beyond the Revolutionary name and flag, this nation will receive significant bonuses and a large score boost, which can make it dangerous to push a country too far in the era of revolutions.

Hi everyone! It's time to start talking about how the naval aspects of the game are changing with Hearts of Iron IV. There are a lot of aspects of naval gameplay, so we will be splitting this up in several diaries. Strategic warfare and details on missions will be in later diaries. This one will focus on direct combat and the general idea.

We had a few goals when designing naval mechanics for HOI4. We wanted it to both be able to handle the case of German surface raider ships relying on firepower and speed to tie up a large portion of the royal navy with a few ships like what happened early on in the war and the massive naval battles of the pacific between Japan and USA. We also wanted different ship types to be able to interact with each other and not make, say, convoy raiding a completely separate system.

What makes naval action so different from land is that the position of everything is not precisely known. So just because you know there is a German ship in a sea zone doesn't mean you can find it before it leaves. ...

Bigger Map, More Options, More History in Ambitious Add-On

STOCKHOLM — October 10, 2014 — "I reply that since war is not a job at which any man can make an honorable living, it should be left entirely in the hands of princes or governors." – Machiavelli, Art of War, Book I.

Paradox Interactive today announced that Art of War, the newest and largest expansion for the award-winning grand strategy game Europa Universalis IV, will be available worldwide on October 30, 2014. This, the fourth expansion to be released for Europa Universalis IV, adds a vast array of changes to the game at the fundamental level, including a dramatic overhaul to the game map itself.

To mark this announcement, we have a new video dev diary, where Martin Anward who is Project Lead for Europa Universalis IV explains some of the new tools available to players as they march to war. Learn about new diplomatic options, the new powers of rebels and other notable changes.

We’re back with the end of week Europa Universalis IV: Art of War dev diary with a bit more information on how we are tweaking war fighting, some big changes to big ideas and a look at Africa’s Maghreb region and how redrawing that map remakes the politics of the region.

    Sorties
A new feature in Art of War is the ability to sortie the garrison of a province that is under siege. If a small, isolated army is besieging one of your high level fortresses, you can now attempt to break that siege by clicking the ‘Sortie’ button. This will create a new army out of the garrison of the fort, which will engage the enemy army besieging the province. At the end of the battle - win or lose - the sortieing army will return to their garrison duty, unless you misjudged badly and they were wiped out to the last man in which case the enemy gains control of the province as there is nobody left to defend it!

Hello and Welcome to the last Dev Diary before the launch of Crusader Kings 2: Charlemagne, my name is Johan Lerström and I am the project lead on the team.

Launch is fast approaching and we are very busy making the last changes and bugfixes before the release, but Im going to take a couple minutes to tell you a story of how half the map is now very different to play.

We've always felt that large parts of the map, even in later start dates is poorly represented by our feudal system, while some parts of the map like the Muslims and Byzantium have gotten some extra features to represent how they differ from feudal Europe, the pagan areas have not gotten quite as much attention.
