Poland is divided by Germany and Soviet Union. Soviet Union attacks Finland, thus Winter War begins. For everybody's great surprise the Swedish Crown decides to intervene to help their former subjects against Soviet threat, perhaps hoping that out of gratitude the Finns would submit to the Swedes once again. Unlucky for the Swedes Germany decides to honour the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact even further and invades Sweden trough Denmark and from the sea. Swedes are quickly defeated by the veterans of the Invasion of Poland, they submit themselves to Germany and Finns give up Viipuri and Sortaval to Soviet Union.

Immediately after the Roman Legions have reorganized near the Greek border war is declared on Greece. The Greece armies even though numerous are no match for the battle hardened Legions of Rome. In few weeks the Romans are in Athens and Greece is under Roman control once again. Allied invasion of Crete is averted for now.
Today I received probably the best birthday present that a man can ever receive from his father. He gave me an cool and antique looking pocket watch, which has the Finnish Lion in the top cover in it giving it a very regal look. All I need now is a top hat, cane, monocle and a noble title and I could be the King of Finland.

And today is my 22nd birthday. Yay!

Les Chateaux de la Loire :

Loches, one of Foulque Nerra's Castles - Part 2

*Following of _Part1_ (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/entry.php?1380-Le-Chateau-de-Loches-one-of-Foulque-Nerra-s-castles-Part-1)...

In march of 1429, Charles VII had met a young woman from Donremy (Lorraine) who urges him to kick the Anglois out of France. She starts out by lifting the siege of Orleans in may. In june of the same year, Jeanne d'Arc comes to Loches, where the Court is installed. She asks him to go to Reims to be crowned King of France, which he will do, turning the tides of the Hundred Years' War.

Charles VII was married with Marie d'Anjou, daughter of the Duke of Anjou and titulary King of Naples. But he also had an official royal mistress Agnes Sorel, to whom he gave the Castle of Loches. A small and fun fact about Agnes Sorel : one of her daughter with Charles VII married a Jacques de Brézé. Their son Louis married Diane de Poitiers, royal mistress of frnech king Henri II. From this filiation, one can trace down to the Houses of France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Yougoslavia, Bulgaria, Luxemburg, Roumania, Savoy, Parma, Two-Sicilies, Württemberg, Calabria, Aosta, two imperial families (France and Brazil), and several branches of the families of Liechtenstein, Greece and Tuscany.
Agnes Sorel is interred in the Church of Saint Ours, which is located between Foulques Nerra's keep and Charles VII's Royal House.

After Charles VII's death, Louis XI will abandon Loches for the Castle of Amboise he prefers. He will transform the keep into a state prison.
Later, Anne de Bretagne, wife to two kings of France, Charles VIII and his cousin Louis XII, in a french move to permanently annex the Duchy of Brittany (i might come back on this episode later with the Castle of Langeais), spent much time in the Royal House of the Castle of Loches, far from the restless life of the Court.
She had an oratory built :

Along with the laces, you might recognize the Ermine of the coat of arms of Bretagne.

Among the prisonners at the Castle of Loches, we can find Cardinal Balue, almoner of Louis XI. He became Premier of the Grand Conseil, but was later compromised in the capture of Louis XI by Duke of Burgundy Charles the Bold, at Peronne. He was later freed after the intervention of the Pope. He became Legate and moved to Rome.
Also, Lodovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, handed over to Louis XII de France by his own Swiss mercenaries and who died in Loches in 1508.
Louis XVI later imprisonned the Englishmen captured during the french intervention during the American Revolution.

If you ever come in Tourraine for a trip back in time, the Castle of Loches should definitely on your list of places to visit.

As this is a first episode of what might be a series, let me first make a small introduction : my parents, a few years ago, moved to a small town in close proximity of Tours. For those who don't know (and that might be most of you), Tours is a town on the river Loire, to the south-west of Paris. Being at the border between the Valois and the Platagenet demesnes at the end of the Middle Ages, it is rich with castles and history.

Loches, one of Foulque Nerra's Castles - Part 1

*Image: http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/2236/loches06.png

The Castle that overlooks Loches is a good example of this link between the Chateaux de la Loire and the history of France.

At the end of the Xth century, the castle was made out of wood, as it was common back then. It was then that Foulques III d'Anjou, also known as Foulques Nerra, conquered Loches in his struggle against his ennemy the Count of Blois. In 1013, he had a huge stone keep :

Image: http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/2295/loches07.png
Along with the rest of his demesne, the castle passed along to the Platagenet kings of England. Henri II and Richard I the Lionheart will increase the fortifications, as Philippe II of France laid siege several times. It was finally captured in 1205, and was added to the Valois demesne, as a powerful stronghold.

Image: http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/5192/loches08.png

We jump two centuries and the new master of the Castle of Loches is Charles VII de Valois, dauphin of France. He doesn't like the keep, as it isn't comfortable. So he has the Royal House built :

My Roller Coaster Year

You know, I have to say the 2011 has been a year I will always remember. The title says it all. It has had some all time highs for me and also some all time lows.

Let me start with the Highs.

In January I basically won the Paradox lottery and was invited to go to the yearly convention the company runs every year. It was a trip of a lifetime(not to mention all expenses paid, they know how to treat a guest) and I enjoyed every second of it. It was the first time I had ever been to NYC and I got to meet many of the Developers for the PC games I have been playing for over the last 10 years. Thank you Fred, Johan, and everyone else at Paradox for picking me for this trip. You guys keep making the games and I will keep buying them. My AAR from the trip. (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?516902-GuileMike-s-AAR-on-the-Paradox-Interactive-Convention-2011-in-NYC)

I coached my last season of tennis at the school I work at. I had been doing it since 2005. Though I will miss the spirit of competition and the kids I coached, I am happy to retire and just focus my efforts in the classroom.

In June, I struck the lottery again in the trip dept. and was asked by my sister-in-law to tag along on a trip to the wilderness in Canada. Now being a geography major, I always wanted to travel the world, so there was no way I was going to pass this up. This was also my first trip out of the USA. We went to Lake Brownell in Saskatchewan and fished in the wilderness the for one week. There was no electricity and lots of mosquitoes, but the trip was worth it and quite an experience. The catch(forgive the pun for the fishing trip) for the free trip was to watch my nephew, it was an easy job. I caught tons of fish and ate them as well.

My wife and I have now been married for 5 years and it seems like every year our love for each other grows larger. My wife decided to do a career change and to join the Army. She spent a year to train to get in shape and lost nearly a 100 lbs in the process. She quit her job early in the year to spend more time with our son and to have more time to work out for her future job. Having her around all the time was great for all of us. More on my wife later in the blog.
Our Happy Family

When the fall came around and it was time to go back to work, I was given a new assignment to teach something new. After five years of teaching Advance placement Human Geography, I was happy for a switch to teaching general world history and sociology. Too many politics in teaching AP and I was glad to be rid of it. You can read some of my previous blogs if you are interested in the woes of teaching AP in my state.
My son in my classroom

Sports this year were very enjoyable. Mainly because I was never injured. I played baseball on two teams this year. One was against many former pro and college kids. We made it to the finals but fell short. Tennis this year playing in the USTA league was the same result, 2nd place. I am going to play anything I get a chance to because who knows how many more years I have until my body starts breaking down.

Random vacations - Some other places I visited this year was South Fla a few times to see college buddies and a family trip to the Atlanta area. The family vacation to Stone Mountain and the Braves game was the highlight.
My wife and son at Turner Field

My son has been a bright spot for me this year. He played in his first soccer league at age 3 and was one of the best on his team. He also started school and loves to go to it. This is actually a school and not a day care. The day cares he was in the previous two years were nightmares so we were worried when he started school that he might not do well there two. Well this is Catholic School and let me tell you, those teachers are damn good at what they do if my son loves going there everyday.

Now the lows. Now let me tell you I realize some people have it way worse than I do by a mile. So when I say lows, these are mostly just sad points of the year. Nothing to get mega emo about.

Man, let me start with work. The bunch of kids I had this past year in my AP class made me see the light from teaching the subject. Many could care less about being in the classroom and gave minimum effort all through the year. It just puzzles me that they choose this elective. They elect to be there and then they make me look bad when they don't pass the test at the end of the year. Also had a first, a parent got on to me about being too hard on her son. She told me just let him sleep in class. Wow lady, let your son sleep and hold me accountable when he flunks the test at the end of the year. Maybe I need to find another career or just teach at a higher level where kids have to pay to be in the classroom. Don't get me started on the bureaucratic storm they are shoving on teachers in my state.

Well, for the first four months of the year. I was sick, like sick for weeks at a time. I kept on getting strep throat. Now I had not had this illness since I was in grade school and was puzzled why it was hitting me so hard at this age. So the doctors told me it would be a good idea to remove my tonsils. Evidently strep was seeded in my tonsils and this was the only way for me to get better. So the first day of my summer vacation, they removed them. The first 3 days were not bad, but then the pain kicked in for a good week after that. My taste buds to this day are still kinda screwed up from the surgery. On the good side, I have not been sick since the surgery.

My wife with her career change is setting up some big changes for 2012. One is relocating from our home in Tallahassee to who knows where. That being said, we are going to take a major hit because the housing market is freaking awful. I will kiss and estimated 20k down the drain to be rid of this house. I do not want to worry about a rental half way across the country or world.

My last grandparent pasted away in Sept. My grandfather passed away the year before. With my final two grandparents I can remember many memories growing up with them and spending every summer with them. I miss you both so much.

Last, my wife with her career. Before I hit the lows for this, I want to say I am proud of her for starting her career, taking on a challenging job and looking out for us with all the cool benefits from her job. The govt. really takes care of their military family's and it has relieved some financial stress. I am not the least unhappy with her joining, but I am lonely, tired, and stressed more than ever in my life. The first week my wife went off to basic training, the worst luck hit hard. My son got super sick for about a week. No big deal usually but we were in between insurance at the time and really did not have anyone else to help watch him. My wife was away from Late Aug - early Nov. During that time I was only able to talk to her on the phone for a total of 30min. The loneliness kicked in hard and has not left. My wife was able to spend Veterans Day weekend with us and had to go report to her job training. She will get 2 weeks off to be with us for Christmas. Being tired is something I am always now because I am basically a single parent until my wife finishes her job training. My son keeps me busy with all the energy he has. I can't imagine if I had two kids to worry about. Stress with not having my spouse around has been at an all time high. Being mr. mom is a hard job. After a day of lectures, grading papers, and dealing with teenage hormones takes a ton out of you everyday. Then you have to come home to clean, cook, and take care of a 3 year old. I swear I will have gray hairs soon I know military spouses will not always be around b/c the job is that demanding, but I am ready for her AIT to be done and to be around my wife once again

This might be corny to say, but one thing that has kept my spirits high during the low points is actually Paradox. Coming on these forums is always a blast because Paradox peeps are a unique breed of mature people that are into the same things I enjoy. It is indeed a welcoming community. Also I was lucky to be part of the beta for Sengoku. It was my first beta and I hope to try Salem out as my next beta. The hour or so daily that I might get to play games after my son goes to sleep is defiantly one of my high points of the day. For the last three months I have been hot and heavy into DW. I want to play this as much as possible until CK2 and Vicky 2 AHD come out.
A Manchurian game I have been playing in EU3 DW

Anyway to my Paradox peeps, family, and friends. Happy Holidays and a Happy New year.

Yeah I know I have fallen into the lurking habit as of late - but since last year my family has grown twice and I have simply not much time to spare for the forums. However, I have discovered that the little lady that got exposed to the Hoi3 music (see below) now develops some... interesting preferences for military equipment, so to speak.
Most astonishingly she also already knows how to steer a helicopter :cool:

But see for yourselves, dear readers.

My first game ever. Playing France. Had a ton of great wars in the game. My main goal at first was to simply break up the UK by making them release India and her other colonies but it quickly turned into a rush for land to stay ahead of the UK. And after NGF betrayed me during a great war with the Bourgeoisie Dictatorship of Great Britain (they lost a few times to rebels after each great war, going from HMS to Bourgeoisie to Democracy to Socialist Democracy) I decided to cut them down to size and take the whole Rhineland region.

After a 3rd or 4th war with the UK, France had so much access money and resources (tanks) that they could just devour the countries around them. Infamy didn't matter, most of the other nations didn't want to get involved (although GB and China formed and alliance that was hard to deal with at times). Years of fighting GB yielded almost all of India; it wasn't easy. At times they occupied the entire sub continent, and the French soldiers barely hung onto the southern tip with 400,000 French vs 700,000 Brittish.

There was a lot of diplomatic focus, and I would say we built up an impressive sphere. Allies include: Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Paraguay, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Piedmont, Parma, Modena, Sweden, Montenegro, Oranje, that other boer country, Nepal, that tiny country between Nepal's provinces, Siam, Cambodia, Johore, Papal Congo (sphered, not allied).

I would imagine this might make a good HOI Scenario with the USA (with Mexico, USCA, Columbia, Egypt, Papal States, Netherlands, NGF) GB (with Two Sicilies, China, and Austria. Turkey), and France leading separate factions. There's no communist or fascist states all game, excluding Peru and Argentina, who got mad about all their land being taken. They swapped between so many government forms it was hard to keep track. I think Peru is Communist and Argentina is Fascist. The dividing factor would be that everyone who isn't allied to France hates them. Not sure where Russia would fit in, but they're the ones I'm afraid of. I was literally messing with the US' sphere but I did nothing to Russia; they were sending sizable expeditions to Spain over a debt, I think.

First fascist country: Scotland. Venezuela is in southern Egyptian (and fighting for more). America is in Ethiopia. Paraguay took out Bolivia single-handedly.

Le Château de Guédelon, a medieval castle under construction - Part 2

Image: http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4231/bannireon.png

As introduced in a previous page of my blog, in Treigny, they are building a XIIIth century fortress (a sister project started in 2009 in Ozark (Arkansas) (http://www.ozarkmedievalfortress.com/en-us/)).

The architecture of the castle is called "Philippian". What is that ?

Well, first, let's go back to November 1st, 1179. On that day, at the Cathedral of Reims, Philippe II Capet is crowned King of France. At that point, the Kingdom of France is very small; he personnally controls only what is now Île de France, around Paris. The eastern half of the rest of the kingdom is owned by Richard the Lion-Heart, King of England. The western half is owned by vassals of Philippe II, their loyalty being fickle, especially the Duke of Burgundy.

Twenty years before, during the reign of his father Louis VII, started what is sometimes called the First Hundred Years War, a conflict between the dynasties of the Capetians and of the Plantagenêts. During his reign, Philippe II, who will gain the surname of "Auguste", through marriage and especially conquests, will expand greatly the Kingdom.

This raises an issue to Philippe II Auguste : how to control and the protect these new territories. Two aspects are at the core of this issue : first, money has become scarce because of the war. City fortifications are very costly.
Second, the previous strategy in fortifications was motte-and-bailey, with a wooden or stone keep, built on easely defensible terrain. However, this "passive" defense strategy is not well suited with control of large areas. After the XIth century, after Foulques Nerra in Anjou, the model for a castle was massive square towers. But the use of catapults and trebuchets has pointed out a vulnerability of such constructions.

During Philippe Auguste's reign, and all the wat to his grandson Louis IX (also known as Saint Louis), the nature of castle construction will evolve to adapt to the new parameters : cost, placement and vulnerability. The solution is the Philippian Castle :

The above diagram is that of the Castle of Guédelon, but holds all the caracteristics of a Philippian Castle :
- a large and tall circular keep, usually in the most vulnerable spot of the future castle. It can be quite high, allowing for visual communication with a nearby ally castle. The circular aspect of the tower will make it harder for the trebuchet to cause damage.
- three slightly smaller circular towers.
- four walls, usually 8 meters high and 40-60 meters long.
- the gate is place between two circualr or semi-circular towers.
- A building is built against the wall, where the lord will live, recieve his guests, store food and other ressources.
- A moat. Instead of paying large amounts of money to have it filled with water, they are instead kept dry. They are 7 meters deep, for a jump to always be harmfull. Pales coated with animal droppings are placed in holes and hidden, caltrops are dispersed, and thorns areallowed to grow above.
- A postern is added to allow for conspicuous exits of defenders, leading to the entry of a tunnel inside the moat. The door of the postern is defended by an arrowslit of the opposing keep.

- Usually, the area around the fortress is "cleaned" over 200 meters around, to avoid any shelter for ennemy soldiers, 200 meters being the range of crossbows.

This structure of castles made sieges and captures quite difficult, as the towers are less susceptible to trebuchet bombardments, and, if the walls still are, every wall is defended and protected by the cross-fires of at least three towers, with no blind spots.

During the XIIIth century, 12 000 of those castles will be built in France. Out of those about 300 reain to this day, usually with many later modifications.

The quality of this "active" defense will become a factor of dissuasion, allowing for an era of peace in France between the two Hundred Years' Wars (from 1259 to 1337).

This model of castle will soon spread to England (where it is known as Edwardian Castle), Germany, and was the model for most of the crusader castles built during the Crusades.

As introduced in a previous page of my blog, in Treigny, they are building a XIIIth century fortress (a sister project started in 2009 in Ozark (Arkansas)).

Close to this town, the owner of a nearby XIVth century castle, in Saint-Fargeau, started the construction of a medieval castle.

Image: http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/7273/saintfrageaux.png

This crazy idea started when, after doing some research and sudy of his castle, he discovered that it was a modification of an older castle. He wanted to have that older castle displayed. However, he couldn't reasonnably transform his castle back. So, in a former sandstone quarry, covered with an oaktree forest, he decided to start one from scratch.

Rather than just asking for a permit to build a XIIIth century castle, he built a project on three axis :
- experimental archeology, with the goal of rediscovering the medieval construction techniques.
- education, with around 150 000 students coming each year.
- on-the-jod training in stone masonry.
A non-official axis is a band of buddies having fun together.

This project, that started in 1997, is planned to last for another 12-15 years. They have just started, on the same basis, a Cistercian priory and a medieval village.

Future AAR Ideas

*Bukkhara: A Return To Central Asia *-- Since a few things have changed since I last tried playing Bukkhara, I want another go at it. For those who hadn't followed the first AAR, I had to cut it short because the game slowed to a crawl around 1890. However, now that the game speed has been fixed, among a few other things, I’ve been thinking of making a return to the country once the 1.4 patch is released.

*After the War *--This is my intended sequel to my AAR The Revolution which won Writer of the Week. After the War will not be an entirely new AAR, instead it will feature what happened to the historical characters from The Revolution and finally give that project a final rest.
*
The Link* -- A project I decided to rewrite after losing my notes and my save game on a crashed computer. Now that I have most paradox games on steam and Rome will work on my laptop, I should be able to restart this project soon. Check my inkwell for more information on the story.

*Japan: A Recent History 1914 - ????* -- After an accident with my at-the-time girlfriend, I had to put this and Dante’s Blood - I think that was the other AAR - on hold. Unfortunately I never came back to it and lost the momentum I gained. The computer crashing with my notes struck an end to the project. I had thought about recreating the AAR from memory but I think I can do better elsewhere.

After picking up the deal on Steam I discovered Darkest Hour which allows for a better play through of WWI than the Victoria I scenario does. While there is a Vik II scenario for WWI being worked out, I can’t imagine it being better than a game solely geared for the war.

When there is a new Japan: A Recent History AAR ready, it’ll definitely be in the Darkest Hour forum. And since the end date can be modified - with no reported problems as far as I can tell from the forum - the AAR could go on until a game slowdown or game boredom sets in.

And yes, to keep it interesting, once more Japan will join in on Germany’s side in World War I.

*Dante’s Blood *-- A sequel to a project I started a while back. I’ll finish it soon… maybe.

*The Adventures of Singapore Sling and the Snakebite Kid* -- Would be my first attempt at a Comedy AAR. Basically it would be a humorous Western with plenty of boozy references and names. I don’t plan for it to have more than twelve chapters and each chapter being rather short, it should go fast. If it catches on I could follow it up with other “The Adventures of Singapore Sling and…”

*Brandenburg III’s Brandenburg: A Paradox* --Me playing as Brandenburg in either EU III or FtG. Since I’m currently doing a B3 AAR, it might be a while before I try another.

*Snakes Only! *-- A gameplay AAR where I’m only permitted to have two provinces connected to one another. In other words imagine a snake, a train, or things of that nature. A long and winding nation without clumps of provinces or safe places to retreat.

*It Never Rains in Space* -- An AAR I once had planned for CK however since my CK cd is useless with my laptop, this one will have to be put on hold for some time. Eventually CK will work its way into space.

*Oman in Victoria I (untitled)* -- After an off-handed comment near the end of my Maintain the Monarchy AAR a commenter suggested Oman as a follow-up. I’m considering it.

*Maintain the Monarchy II: A Russia VIP (?.?) AAR *-- Once VIP gets its first version and its first hot fix, and once Paradox officially releases 1.4 I’ll consider resurrecting my Maintain the Monarchy idea for Russia for the new game. Same rules will apply as before. The main rule will be to Maintain the Monarchy and, if I think a conversion is good enough, I’ll use it to advance the game into either DH, HoI II or HoI 3.

*Chronicle of the Victorian Era* -- Each update will encompass a month in the world of Victoria II. Sound like a long project? Yeah, no kidding. But like my Singapore Sling idea, its something I’ve been wanting to do for a while.

*Yankees in the Attic* -- A man has to live his life, contend with wife, kids, etc. all while fighting for what he loves. Reenacting battles of the Civil War. I know what you’re thinking but this will not be a humored AAR. It will be a drama.

***

I should add that I never really announce when I’m writing a new AAR even if I have two AARs running at the same time. Your best bet is to take a look at my signature every couple of months to see if I have something going on. If I do, it’ll be there.

*Installation:*
Extract the files in the mod directory of your Europa Universalis III game. You need at least Divine Wind 5.1 patch from 10th May 2011 otherwise the mod may not work. Before you start the mod it is recommended to delete the map cache of your EU III game (located in the EUIII\map\cache).

For questions about the mod, please visit our forum:

Vitosha (English) (http://vitosha.cz.cc/)

or here:

Vitosha Bulgarian (http://vitosha.co.nr/)

*General Information:*

The extended time frame of the mod means many minor changes on the base of the original Divine Wind patch (DW),as for the resources, as for the technologies and history of the countries and fractions. The new nomad system introduced since this patch was influenced by the government type of the countries - something which we changed. Now it will depend on the technology group (nomadic, barbarian, native americans, aborigenes), but could be changed if you have neighbour from latin, eastern or muslim technology group and you have sufficient funds and technology achievements. This is also the first mod introducing Victoria II map, so there are many differences from the vanilla version of the game, but as well the original challenge - seize all world provinces is now even more interesting with 3283 provinces.

*Interface changes:*
As the mod creators are mainly from Bulgaria we change a little the interface. The biggest change is the strategic view of the map, which is in fact get from Europa Universalis mini mod which name I can't recall (if someone recognize it please let us know). As well the flag frame is imported from The Wolves mod (which get it from Latinia Universalis (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?396692-Latinia-Universalis-TOTAL-CONVERSION)). Other changes are the infamity icon (Bulgarian flag), the merchant icon (which look like typical medieval Balkan trader) and the missionary icon which is in orthodox style.

*Economic changes:*
Issue of government securities and foreign trade debt

When country is in a long and exhausting war military maintenance is vital for the victory. However due to trade embargoes and war exhaustion rulers are often unable to pay their soldiers. On the other hand loans means that you get in the spiral of economy crisis. Other option is minting, but then the inflation will hit you.

As we know from the history often, while in war the rulers issue, so called government, which are way to finance your deficit. Off course behind this opportunities they are negative consequences:
- Global tax increase with 5 %;
- Prestige decrease with 1 monthly;
- Stability cost increase with 1 %.

The second way is when the rulers decrease the amount of gold in the coins they issue. However soon or later the population found out about this and this leads to:
- 600 gold in the treasury ;
- Stability drop with 1 level;
- Prestige decrease with 1 monthly;
- Increase revolt risk with 1.

*Used mini mods:*

*Black Plague (from The Dark Years (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?497-The-Dark-Years) mod) : *
The Black Plague is a mini mod which adds events and decisions for the mortal illness. The mod is amended for the time period between 1240 - 1600 and will hit Europe and Asia.

*Distance mod (from In Extenso (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?516910-InExtenso-a-DW-minimod-that-makes-distance-your-enemy.) Mod) : *
This mod recreate system which mark your provinces in several group depending on how far they are from the capital province. As far as they are, as much negative modifiers they will gain. This mod will make the distance your enemy. Some of the negative modifiers are - higher revolt risk, lower taxes.

*EU III Factions (from EU Factions (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?525087-EU-Factions-Mod) Mod): *
This mod add the ability to play with internal factions as you can do if you play with Ming dynasty in the original Divine Wind game. You can try the challenge to rule by maneuver between the 3 different factions.

*Other resources which we used:*
As the Steppe Wolf is the night sequel of our mods there are many elements from previous mods as:
- Rising Nations 7 (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?368890-HttT-4.0-Europa-Universalis-III-Rising-Nations-Mod-v1.4);
- Renaissance 3 (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?407369-Le-Mod-Renaissance-0.3-est-n%E9-!);

Installation:
Extract the files in the mod directory of your Europa Universalis III game. You need at least Divine Wind 5.1 patch from 10th May 2011 otherwise the mod may not work. Before you start the mod it is recommended to delete the map cache of your EU III game (located in the EUIII\map\cache).

For questions about the mod, please visit our forum:

General Information:

Interface changes:
As the mod creators are mainly from Bulgaria we change a little the interface. The biggest change is the strategic view of the map, which is in fact get from Europa Universalis mini mod which name I can't recall (if someone recognize it please let us know). As well the flag frame is imported from The Wolves mod (which get it from Latinia Universalis). Other changes are the infamity icon (Bulgarian flag), the merchant icon (which look like typical medieval Balkan trader) and the missionary icon which is in orthodox style.

Economic changes:
Issue of government securities and foreign trade debt

When country is in a long and exhausting war military maintenance is vital for the victory. However due to trade embargoes and war exhaustion rulers are often unable to pay their soldiers. On the other hand loans means that you get in the spiral of economy crisis. Other option is minting, but then the inflation will hit you.

As we know from the history often, while in war the rulers issue, so called government, which are way to finance your deficit. Off course behind this opportunities they are negative consequences:
- Global tax increase with 5 %;
- Prestige decrease with 1 monthly;
- Stability cost increase with 1 %.

The second way is when the rulers decrease the amount of gold in the coins they issue. However soon or later the population found out about this and this leads to:
- 600 gold in the treasury ;
- Stability drop with 1 level;
- Prestige decrease with 1 monthly;
- Increase revolt risk with 1.

Used mini mods:

Black Plague (from The Dark Years mod) :

The Black Plague is a mini mod which adds events and decisions for the mortal illness. The mod is amended for the time period between 1240 - 1600 and will hit Europe and Asia.

Distance mod (from In Extenso Mod) :

This mod recreate system which mark your provinces in several group depending on how far they are from the capital province. As far as they are, as much negative modifiers they will gain. This mod will make the distance your enemy. Some of the negative modifiers are - higher revolt risk, lower taxes.

EU III Factions (from EU Factions Mod):

This mod add the ability to play with internal factions as you can do if you play with Ming dynasty in the original Divine Wind game. You can try the challenge to rule by maneuver between the 3 different factions.

Other resources which we used:
